Pokemon

It all makes sense now

HOLY FUCK I'VE GOT THE GREATEST BONNER RIGHT NOW
FUCK YEAH GEN 3

My first shiny was an absol tho :')

EDIT: Oh wait...actually it was a Igglybuff I got like 10 years ago on the original gold and I didn't realize it until 2003.
I don't remember my first Shiny but I vaguely remember my sister encountering a Shiny Chansey in the Safari Zone in Fire Red/Leaf Green. She was young at the time so she just handed it to me to catch because she thought I was really good at the game.

I totally failed her. A shiny Shiny Chansey though, how often does that happen?

I've never catched a shiny, but encountered a Wobbuffet at Ruby's Safari Zone once.
Want to make my dream team again, aw yiss.

Hoenn confirmed is the greatest thing to wake up to. Why didn't they announce this at E3 though? They would've automatically won the entire show.

I've caught a few shinies.

Found a shiny Pachirisu recently. Sadly, Pachirisu is literally useless. Though it was pink so I was able to name is Pinkchirisu and that was okay.

From Wonder Trade I got a level 100 shiny Mime Jr because fuck

And on the GTS for an extra Entei I got a shiny Scizor who is now totes on my competitive team.

Hoenn confirmed is the greatest thing to wake up to. Why didn't they announce this at E3 though? They would've automatically won the entire show.

They're saving it for Pokken, the Pokemon/Tekken hybrid.

Even though Gen 3 was my first Gen I played, I still think that it was okay. The villains were okay, the heroes were okay, the new Pokemon ON AVERAGE were okay, and the locations were okay.

The reason I specified "on average" over Pokemon was because this Gen introduced my single favorite Pokemon: Absol. To see Absol again in hyper super updated Gen 3 HD graphics will be THE BEST!!!

I'mma have to call you out.

The villains were okay

What's okay about bioterrorists? Unlike other villains, theirs wasn't just an "evil" idea, they thought they were saving the world. Team Rocket are just for teh evulz, Team Galactic are idiots, Team Plasma are pretty decent and Team Flare have no real goal. Both Magma and Aqua had deadset endgoals for what they wanted. Plus, look at this sexy mofo

the heroes were okay

Gotta disagree here. At least in the original Ruby and Sapphire (don't care for the Emerald redesigns) we got vastly different character designs from normal. Black and red for the color scheme as opposed to simply red or blue shirt - red hat was a great change of pace. I much prefer Brendan and May over any of the other player characters. Plus, they have actual names that don't sound dumb. I mean, Hilda and Hilbert? REALLY?

I don't see a bad one in the bunch. They're all great (minus Luvdisc). They're colorful, well balanced (Garchomp...) and aside from Shedinja are devoid of gimmicks. Plus you got Wailord, the literal biggest Pokemon EVER.

and the locations were okay.

Maybe it's cause I'm right now replaying Gen 3 and still loving it, but damn. What a great region.
I hate replaying Gen 4, and I'm burned out on Gen V. This is what I need. THIS IS WHO I AM.

OKAY GEN 3 BABIES.

NOW YA CAN SHUT UP.
Vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit vomit.
And now we've arrived at remaking the games that we're so fucked up that they were forced to make gen 1/2 remakes as an apology for their blunders. The remakes now serve no purpose everyone.
I edited this post 3 times to try and make it sound less offensive. 3 times. To clarify, I'm not really mad at the people who begged for these, and I'm not that mad at nintendo for doing it, it's just bringing back terrible memories of when this game came out and celebrating them. You have to understand where I'm coming from, here; I remember ruby and saphire as the games that murdered my level 100 Typhlosion, Dragonite, Blissey, Espeon, Blastoise and Pidgeot, my fabulous shiny murkrow, my in-training level 80 scizor. Murdered them. Out of laziness. It's like the moment my childhood ended, where I realized that my virtual pets were slowly dying on a cartridge with a limited battery and that there's no way I could take them along with me on my next pokemon adventures.
This is actually a pretty saddening event for me and I don't think I'll be playing pokemon for a while now- at least not until Z version, possibly not until gen 6. I don't even know that I would have played gen 4 if it weren't for fire red and leaf green.

I already said my first shiny was a banette. I also said it's nature let it have less attack...

Oh well. At least I named it Shinette.

stuff

You do realize the whole thing with that was Nintendo not allowing the data to be able to transfer from old save data to new save data, right? And because of that all new device save data are compatible with old device save data because of that error?

Like, disliking Gen 3 I can understand, it was at the time that Pokemon was starting to dip in popularity, but honestly you're making this out to be like it's the PokeHolocaust.

even you gotta admit though, that is a long time to hold a grudge.

also, I think you might have been a bit TOO attached to those pokemon if its making you not want to play anymore.

don't hate the games, blame the lack of technology and the inability to add abilities to pokemon from GB era games.

I almost had a heart attack from the nostalgia today. Gen 3 is my favorite. Hyped as dicks for this.

Gen 3 for me boils down to:
- Slaking
- Ninjask/Shedinja
- Breloom
- Wailord
- Milotic
- Sharpedo
- Gardevoir

A lot of the others were either unappealing designs to me (Shiftry, Nosepass, Dusclops, Manetric, Cacturne, Ludicolo, etc.) or awesome designs that were too weak to be good at much until they were made playable in future games (Mawile, Absol) or never at all (Tropius, Exploud, Cradily).

Pound for pound, G3 just has the most Pokemon who did nothing for me. ^^; The region itself was great, but it's my least favorite generation of actual Pokemon. I really like the ones I do like, but I'm neutral to worse on a lot of the actual Pokes, and none of the starter designs appealed to me. ^^;

Still hype for more Pokemon, though, and like I said - good region. Hopefully we get a bunch more Megas out of it too, though who knows if they'll do that since it's sort of a Kalos thing...

gen 3 gave me a lot of good stuff

but gardevoir is still the worst thing to happen to the pokemon series
but I really like Hoenn as a region and hope they manage to recreate and expand it well

Responses and stuff.
I thought that Team Magma/Team Aqua's respective goals weren't quite justified enough to me to make me care about them the way I cared about Team Plasma.

The Gen 3 Pokemon were not bad, I just believe that the designs do not really interest me as much as in other Gens. There are certainly some great ones (Absol, Latias/Latios, Mawhile, Metagross, Gardevoir, etc), but I feel that they are quite outnumbered by the ones I feel are just decent.

Out of those locations you showed, the only ones I care about are the hot springs and (to some extent) the tree huts. I have no doubt that the update will make these areas look really good, but a lot of the areas in the game just felt like normal, run-of-the-mill areas, like the area shown in that last image you linked.

Pokemon Sapphire was my first Pokemon, so even nostalgia is not enough to make me believe that Gen 3 was more than a pretty good generation. I can certainly see why others like it as much as they do, but it just doesn't stand out to me like Gen 2, Gen 5, and Gen 6 do.

It's Matt McMuscles.
Oh god, I can't unsee that. Not that I want to.
Hey, I love Gardevoir. What wrong with Gardevoir?
If I had to guess, I'd assume it's the porn.

Gardevoir is one of my favorite Gen 3 Pokemon, but I know a lot of people are put off by her... expansive periphery demographic.

she was kind of the pokemon that started the creepy "I wanna marry my pokemon" part of the fanbase. even though Gardevoir is meant to be a wizard.

Oh. Yeah I can understand that.

Edit- also, entirely off topic, but can we find the person who started this thread and get him to change his avatar? It makes me resist clicking on this from "recent topics" every time.

Yeah, it was. And it was fucking stupid for young horseman.
Picture it now, horseman's birthday party, he opens a gift to find pokemon ruby- thanks his grandma, runs into his room, plays until the 2nd or 3rd gym leader and searches online out of curiosity as to how he's going to get his favorite pokemon on ruby- and suddenly it all came crashing down.
I don't even care why it happened, it was still the biggest blunder any pokemon game has ever had, and I'm sure they could have come up with some solution even if it wasn't cost effective, but they just decided not to do anything about it until the remakes. As stupid as it sounds, I think you had to just kind of had to experience it for yourself.

It came damn close to ruining pokemon games for me. There was a lot of sentimental value in those pokemon- the games try to nurture that sort of thing in kids- but I had memories of beating the crap out of all my friends with them, fighting my sister with them all the time, I probably played through silver and gold and red and blue like 10 times by trading all those suckers over and resetting the game I wanted to play again- and I would always trade them in and have a blast rushing through the game super quick and catching all the legendaries again so that I could transfer them to the next game and get even more legendaries. I had, I believe- 6 mewtwos, 5 lugias, 2 ho-ohs, and 2 of each legendary dog. Because I played that much. I'm a pretty sentimental person- I still own a teddy bear that I got the week I was born (and I would definitely smash my $1500 gaming computer with a hammer before I gave it up) and that was a pretty terrible blow to my enjoyment of pokemon games back when it happened. It's not as bad now, but it's not making me happy at all.
IIRC it wasn't abilities (after all, they added the special defense stat in pokemon

Well yeah, but they were also fucking idiots- I could tell they were fucking idiots when I was like 8. I mean, really "gonna replace the ocean with land, hope this doesn't fuck everything up." Maybe you guys should have done like literally 10 minutes of research before you decided to go through with this. It's like, with plasma it was believable (actually kind of too believable since they never really told me why pokemon fights aren't terrible) but with magma/aqua it just wasn't.

I can kind of agree with this, but brendan looks stupid even if he is a good change of pace. I would kind of enjoy another one that doesn't look like a reincarnation of Red, though.
May isn't really the same case, though, since all of the female protagonists get to look vastly different. Crystal was pretty cool, too.

I don't see a bad one in the bunch. They're all great (minus Luvdisc). They're colorful, well balanced (Garchomp...) and aside from Shedinja are devoid of gimmicks. Plus you got Wailord, the literal biggest Pokemon EVER.
First one- Nu-uh. Spoink? Nosepass? feebas/milotic? Fucking Glalie? I mean it's not the worst pokemon designs but don't say there's not a bad one in the bunch.
Don't say they're all great battle wise because we all know that's not true.
Salamence was overpowered enough to practically knock all other dragons out of OU because who would ever use them over salamence.
Gen 3 is gimmicky as fuck. Shedinja? Slaking? Castform? Heck, it's even got the world's first legendary pokemon with a gimmick- Deoxys. I don't even dislike gimmicky pokemon, if anything that's a plus to the roster (since they're at least unique if they're not good) but don't try to bring it up as a plus.

As for locations, I'm too lazy to do a big analysis of the locations in gen 3 but I will say that it had less than a lot of games. Gen 4 probably had the least (I can't even remember a town name from that game, the only thing I can remember is the ice temple place), I'm probably biased towards gen 1 and 2 since I played them the most, but I will say that gen 6 probably had the most out of all of them- just a lot of pretty landscapes.

If you didn't expect Gen 3 to ever be remade because of how "bad" it is, you're fooling yourself.

Can we just get a mega evolution for Regigigas? Jeez, I would literally accept the mega if it only got rid of it's ability.

And if anyone says "even slower start" I swear to God.

all this salt

what is this, the east side of hoenn?

(I actually love surfing around. The lack of oceans to travel across was a downside to XY for me)
