Edit- also, entirely off topic, but can we find the person who started this thread and get him to change his avatar? It makes me resist clicking on this from "recent topics" every time.
You do realize the whole thing with that was Nintendo not allowing the data to be able to transfer from old save data to new save data, right? And because of that all new device save data are compatible with old device save data because of that error?
Yeah, it was. And it was fucking stupid for young horseman.
Picture it now, horseman's birthday party, he opens a gift to find pokemon ruby- thanks his grandma, runs into his room, plays until the 2nd or 3rd gym leader and searches online out of curiosity as to how he's going to get his favorite pokemon on ruby- and suddenly it all came crashing down.
I don't even care why it happened, it was still the biggest blunder any pokemon game has ever had, and I'm sure they could have come up with some solution even if it wasn't cost effective, but they just decided not to do anything about it until the remakes. As stupid as it sounds, I think you had to just kind of had to experience it for yourself.
even you gotta admit though, that is a long time to hold a grudge.
also, I think you might have been a bit TOO attached to those pokemon if its making you not want to play anymore.
don't hate the games, blame the lack of technology and the inability to add abilities to pokemon from GB era games.
It came damn close to ruining pokemon games for me. There was a lot of sentimental value in those pokemon- the games try to nurture that sort of thing in kids- but I had memories of beating the crap out of all my friends with them, fighting my sister with them all the time, I probably played through silver and gold and red and blue like 10 times by trading all those suckers over and resetting the game I wanted to play again- and I would always trade them in and have a blast rushing through the game super quick and catching all the legendaries again so that I could transfer them to the next game and get even more legendaries. I had, I believe- 6 mewtwos, 5 lugias, 2 ho-ohs, and 2 of each legendary dog. Because I played that much. I'm a pretty sentimental person- I still own a teddy bear that I got the week I was born (and I would definitely smash my $1500 gaming computer with a hammer before I gave it up) and that was a pretty terrible blow to my enjoyment of pokemon games back when it happened. It's not as bad now, but it's not making me happy at all.
IIRC it wasn't abilities (after all, they added the special defense stat in pokemon
What's okay about bioterrorists? Unlike other villains, theirs wasn't just an "evil" idea, they thought they were saving the world. Team Rocket are just for teh evulz, Team Galactic are idiots, Team Plasma are pretty decent and Team Flare have no real goal. Both Magma and Aqua had deadset endgoals for what they wanted. Plus, look at this sexy mofo
Well yeah, but they were also fucking idiots- I could tell they were fucking idiots when I was like 8. I mean, really "gonna replace the ocean with land, hope this doesn't fuck everything up." Maybe you guys should have done like literally 10 minutes of research before you decided to go through with this. It's like, with plasma it was believable (actually kind of too believable since they never really told me why pokemon fights
aren't terrible) but with magma/aqua it just wasn't.
Gotta disagree here. At least in the original Ruby and Sapphire (don't care for the Emerald redesigns) we got vastly different character designs from normal. Black and red for the color scheme as opposed to simply red or blue shirt - red hat was a great change of pace. I much prefer Brendan and May over any of the other player characters. Plus, they have actual names that don't sound dumb. I mean, Hilda and Hilbert? REALLY?
I can kind of agree with this, but brendan looks stupid even if he is a good change of pace. I would kind of enjoy another one that doesn't look like a reincarnation of Red, though.
May isn't really the same case, though, since all of the female protagonists get to look vastly different. Crystal was pretty cool, too.
I don't see a bad one in the bunch. They're all great (minus Luvdisc). They're colorful, well balanced (Garchomp...) and aside from Shedinja are devoid of gimmicks. Plus you got Wailord, the literal biggest Pokemon EVER.
First one- Nu-uh. Spoink? Nosepass? feebas/milotic? Fucking Glalie? I mean it's not the worst pokemon designs but don't say there's not a bad one in the bunch.
Don't say they're all great battle wise because we all know that's not true.
Salamence was overpowered enough to practically knock all other dragons out of OU because who would ever use them over salamence.
Gen 3 is gimmicky as fuck. Shedinja? Slaking? Castform? Heck, it's even got the world's first legendary pokemon with a gimmick- Deoxys. I don't even dislike gimmicky pokemon, if anything that's a plus to the roster (since they're at least unique if they're not good) but don't try to bring it up as a plus.
As for locations, I'm too lazy to do a big analysis of the locations in gen 3 but I will say that it had less than a lot of games. Gen 4 probably had the least (I can't even remember a town name from that game, the only thing I can remember is the ice temple place), I'm probably biased towards gen 1 and 2 since I played them the most, but I will say that gen 6 probably had the most out of all of them- just a lot of pretty landscapes.
