Shin Megami Tensei and Persona

Yeah. Basing a character on a theme is one thing. Additionally, this could be the theme behind their alter-egos. From what we've seen, they're pretty normal teens otherwise, so the sins could be a theming for that. Any sort of generalization can be used as a base, doesn't have to envelope the whole of te character.
Then the main character can't be a wild card then? Unless his theme is greed.

That could get interesting. But Digital Devil Saga already did that.

SO HOW ABOUT THAT PERSONA 5 FOLKS?
I'm kinda curious who that Tanuki girl in the trailer is

Also how many times have you rewatched the P5 trailer?
I'm at 3
Downloaded the video and lost count. I noticed Fox girl when I was doing a head count and had one more person. There are 5 chairs on the website so maybe she's our fifth.

Back to the original point, I feel like he deadly sins is boring.

Why? over-characterization.

If these characters have problems, let them have problems, don't just assign them one.

Oh, blonde kid is pride, so he's going to be a haughty asshole until something happens in the middle of the story that changes him.

THAT. THAT is how your write a boring character. Assigning an overarching theme to every character could get hamfisted fast.

These seven sins are supposed to be what helps make up every human, assigning one over the other to a character puts everything in a formula.
To be fair. Most persona games directly tie a character's central problems and development to their respective Tarot cards, and P2 has starter persona that embody the personalities and mindsets of the characters they are assigned to.
It's all in the execution.

I honestly cannot think of many good examples, the best from the top of my head is fma.
nail on the head.
only gotta prove you can do it good once.

Either way, we'll see what comes of it. If we're going deadly sins, think we can expect a Christian or Judist base for the personas? I actually doubt either, thinking it might be budhist or Norse personally.

IS kind of does that, EP? eeehhhhh

Maybe it might be Egyptian. In Persona 3 there was a teacher obsessed with Japanese mythology. In Persona 4 many of the personas were based in Japanese myths, and the teacher that time was obsessed with Egyptian mythology. Following the pattern the Personas should be based on Egyptian myths.

Dude, Baofu.
Baofu was amazing. Beating people up with COINS of all things. Can't beat it. No weapon will ever be more ludicrous in the history of SMT

What about a Machine gun hidden in a guitar case?

yo guys, what if we got demons AND shadows in P5? SMT level stuff for Demons like Minotaur, and Persona classics for Shadows?

Oh yeah, Eikichi's was pretty awesome, too, but a freaking coin. The fact that different coins have have effective stats still boggles the mind! XD

no see it's not the coins for when baofu gets amazing
it's when he starts flicking custom made miniature chakrams at enemies that he starts getting amazing

That and somehow having wiretaps of every demon ever.

Ah, what the fuck. You step out of the house for a bit and suddenly you miss three whole pages.

Uhm, Ulala is clearly best P2 character, mhm.

You're not wrong.

Ulala and Lisa are the best, Maya coming in for a close second.

Ulala kicks ass, no question.
"Here, have a gun"
"Nah, I box y'know"
Maya then proceeds to get 2 guns and then, in most cases, hit LESS hard than Ulala's fists. Plus Ulala is just fun in general.

I've never played the P2 duology, probably never will, and don't even want to due to its aged gameplay, but its characters are really fun and unique. Praise adult characters.

"It's whoop ass time!"

"Ass whooping complete!"

I love you Maya.

I never thought it was possible for a protagonist to have more swag than Yu. Am I dreaming?

That P5 Trailer, HHNNNNNNGGG

Dammit, now I have to reconsider getting a PS4 now.

Also, the girl wears a red, skin-tight catsuit in combat and uses a whip. Waifu status confirmed!

You want aged gameplay you play Persona 1. P2 aged pretty well IMO and is worth playing.

(I'd still recommend the PSP version of P1 if you're interested in seeing where the series came from, aged gameplay and all.)

I'm glad you guys saw the light about Ulala

In fact, I hope either her or Naoto gets to cameo in P5 <it would even make sense for Naoto to show up considering our Persona-using phantom thieves>

naw man, P2 is tight. really good. you'd like it.

but what most people don't know is,

my only exposure to P1, IS the PSP version.

You guys are aware Persona 5 is still releasing for PS3 as well, right?
Finally giving me a reason to nut up and buy a PS3 after all these years...

I'm glad you guys saw the light about Ulala
I'll always be an Eikichi man at heart. But Ulala was pretty boss too. I mean there isn't really a person in P2's main cast I don't like.

Persona 5 hype. It looks fantastic; I love the heavy mask/ thief motif, and the possible P2 references. And the fact that it's looking to be a lot more like 3 than 4 are very good signs as darker themes work better for this series in my opinion.

I just saw the trailer a couple of hours ago (I'm hyped, big surprise), I went through the past few pages of this thread talking about it and now I'm working my way through the thread for it on NeoGAF. I can't help but find it amusing just how many people are praising the menus. Sakurai is crying right now.

Well Naoto could work, but so could Katsuya. It'd be nice to see a P2 person return, but something tells e it ain't happenin. The original writer of the Persona series left the company and I guess they just don't feel right trying to write for characters they didn't write in the first place. Is sad, honestly, especially since they've shown they can hit a character spot on if need be. Seriously, I doubt the original writer would say no to allowing them to use the P1 and P2 cast for a new game.

so is the girl's name clover or 4 chan

because of the clover thingie on her hood
No. Her name's Anzu (or Anne or Annie, dunno) Takamaki.

Get? C-cause Tea's Jap name is Anzu...

I'm just waiting for Raidou and his talking cat to show up and for the shenanigans to begin!

why does the cat have to become a teddie to do stuff
why can't he just be Gouto with a purrsona
