Shin Megami Tensei and Persona

Does anyone have any tips I can use to not suck at the game?
Don't put points into Strength, Dex works for all melee and is actually OP. Magic is cool too, if you want that. Learn to understand press turn, if you don't already, and fuse a lot, buffs and debuffs are super important so always have those on hand.

PUT.
YOUR.
APP.
POINTS.
TOWARDS RECRUITING DEMONS AND GETTING A DEMON RE-SUMMON DISCOUNT! screw mostly everything else. You get exp from recruiting demons. Since you don't get items or money from battles otherwise, I found the best strategy was to boost the exp I got from recruiting demons and fusioning them to the max, and then just recruit all the demons I can, fuse them all away, and then reap the free items, money, and new demons I had from it. Like, it gets to a point where I only really worried about fighting bosses or quest-specific enemies.

That reminds me, I hope getting macca for battles is back.

Dexterity actually affects regular gun attacks, gun skills, and physical skills(not attacks). But yeah, if you want to make a physical-oriented build, just focus mostly on dexterity.

Go magic, be your party's healer. Get Salvation, Judgement, and then make Alice and get Die For ME. If you've built mage and agility, which you should in 4, you'll be able to go first and kill basically anything that isn't immune or resistent to dark/light in one turn. Throw in recovering MP after battles and the strategy I outlined above, and by late game, you're absolutely useless for boss fights (so get some magic, I'd suggest debuffs/buffs, megidoloan, and revive skills), but normal enemy encounters, the things that make progress normally difficult, are a cakewalk.

To put into perspective: Up until I got Alice, so 60% of the game or more, random encounters and quest bosses were the hardest part. Minotaur was tough, but the second boss ez and all bosses after that managable. HOWEVER. Once I got my build like stated above, I wiped pretty much all enemy encounters out in one turn, was super rich most of the time, had strong demons, and absolutely destroyed Lucifer. I went on to confusedly ask my friend if that was it, to which I realized just how ridiculous my build was.

I can fap to that dominatrix costume, so at least FExSMT turned out to be good for something.

Honestly I don't like IV's soundtrack in the sense I would ever listen to it, but I think it does a great job of emulating the atmosphere in the game.

The atmosphere on the ost is incredible IMO. I'd go a step farther and say there are quite a few tracks I've listened to outside the game.

I should have clarified that, yeah.

The atmosphere on the ost is incredible IMO
And I completely agree, I just don't care to listen to most of it outside that context.

#FE late night edition A.K.A. "Why can't I sleep!?!"
Two more character trailers

First up is Mamori Minamoto
"Mamori Minamoto, voiced by Kaori Fukuhara, is one of the new characters introduced by Famitsu. She’s a talented Mirage Master who works in the same entertainment district as the protagonist. Mamori had a small break to fame as the “Wrenchin’ Idol Mamorin”. We also know that she’s a middle schooler who loves to sing Showa ballads and wears traditional clothing."

Her Mirage is Draug and her outfit is terrible. She also looks like combat Nanako so it's nice to see that the Persona 4 teet still has some milk left in it.
Genei-Ibun-Roku-Scan-6-829x1024.jpg

Next is a guy I didn't know existed and wish I could continue that route. Introducing Barry Goodman
"...another new character, and he’s voiced by Yuuichi Nakamura. Barry is a musician who came to Japan seeking Otaku culture (loves the anime “Dear Witch Mother” by the way!) He’s a trainer of Fortuna Entertainment, and teaches the protagonist and others Spartan-like lessons."

From what I saw in the trailer he does not gain a Mirage like the rest of the cast and instead just shows up in costume for reasons unknown. I'd say that's hardcore but one of those costumes is a dog suit. He also seems to be the arms bearer of Mamori so maybe they are a combo package and fight together as a single unit. Something I feel like is an interesting idea not often seen in JRPG's but is probably not the case.

----------------------------------------------------------
Aside from that there are some Famitsu scans of the other characters and some screenshots of gameplay but nothing significant. I'm going to try and get some sleep. And before anyone asks, Yes I think the loli will be annoying. They always are and always will be. The fact that she's wearing a stupid yellow submarine just solidifies her status as annoying party member.

I think there's some entertaining if tuning in for each update to see how much more uninspired and tacky they can make the game look.

Big guy looks like he wants you to believe it.

Sorry for double post, but, beat Nocturne. Got True Demon Ending, Masakados, the whole shebang. Full thoughts, story spoilers ahoy:

Yeah, I had a great time. I really enjoyed it. Solid-as-always turn-based combat, badass soundtrack, great, simple story, and it's really nice to look at too. One of the better-looking PS2 RPGs. But some archaic and dumb design choices might stop it from being my favorite SMT game.

First off, fuck the Kalpas. I dreaded these things every time I had to do them. Only one save area at the entrance, stupid, repetitive free-fall minigame, Dante chase, Beelzebub. The entire thing was a nightmare. But I pressed on because I wanted Dante and to kick Luci's butt. The Labyrinth is definitely the low point of the game. But it's also entirely optional. In theory anyway, because no matter where you go online you're pegged as a pussy for not getting the TD ending. The only saving grace is that it has my favorite random battle theme. But all-in-all, a big fat wet fart.

Some other nitpicky stuff: Encounter rate is too high for me. Yeah there's skills that help that, but still. Some silly areas that are nigh impossible without an guide, like those underground station areas. Inherited skills are random, so you know the deal. Back out, select your demons and hope you get the skills you want for 20 fucking minutes. And of course, demon negotiating.

But other than that, smooth sailing. Press-turn system is great. I found myself exploiting weaknesses the least in this game though, not sure why. Not much to say about the battle system other than it's good as it's always been. Maybe that I still hate insta-kill skills, but muh.

I don't see people bring this up much, but Nocturne has some of the best environmental design of its generation. Locations like the Amala Temple and the Obelisk made me pan my camera around and mutter 'holy smokes.' Seriously. And the cel-shading is great. Nocturne gets delightfully cinematic at points, so all this really helps. It's a gorgeous game in many visual aspects.

The story was surprisingly simple and easy to follow, and I liked being apart of the world and impacting it. I also really liked knowing that everyone was going to die by my hand eventually thanks to ol' Luci. Seriously, fuck Chiaki and Isamu. I was salty as shit when they both betrayed me. Hijiri too. But, fuck, when Chiaki slaughtered the Manikins and killed one of my favorite characters, Futomimi, whatever bond we had at that point died. Everyone is an asshole with their own asshole god with flawed views and morals and I was delighted and determined to know that they all gon' die. Maybe that's what makes the Kalpas any sense of the word bearable, but goddamn.

The soundtrack is phenomenal but that goes without saying considering it's Shoji Meguro. I really enjoyed my time with Nocturne, I'm not sure how I'd rate it compared to the other Megaten games I've played, but I think other future playthroughs will cement a placement. I thiiink, right now, I enjoyed SMTIV more though. I'm not entirely sure. EITHER WAY. I'm leaning towards the Raidou games next, as well as Soul Hackers.

So,uh,seven hours into SMT IV and I have a few questions
This shit is breaking me.The amount of times I've had to reload baffles me..My demons are Camazots,Aeros,Hua Po,Shiisa, and Preta.I've been told to fuse Fortuna, but her stats aren't great,so is there another reason I should?I'm at the Medusa fight,so any tips?

Medusa is the last hard part of the game, it's generally pretty easy from then on.

king kenji says hey

As DDB said, SMT IV's challenge sinks dramatically the farther you get into it. It's due to stat imbalances: once you get to a certain part, you can very easily brute force steamroll everything without grinding or changing strategies too much.

Beelzebub is the only tough fight in the game you don't have to pay extra for.

The DLC fights are nonsense by the way, you have to buy certain DLCs to be able to even fight other DLCs, and Masakado pretty much requires teams made specifically for him.

Medusa fight: equip stuff that boosts gun resistance and if possible have demons that are resistant to it as well. I ended up evolving a Gremlin into a Raiju since i was trying to grind for more demon fusions. Raiju Nulls gun attacks, so if it gets hit by any it'll waste Medusa's turns.
But as the others said, the game gets much easier after this. Some parts may be a little hard, but you'll have more options and better stats by then.

Fuck
This
Fight.

Full lvl 99 team and I still got steamrolled. I won by pulling out weaker demons with resistence/null to sickness and only then was able to win. Asshole spams Megido the moment you use a buff, reflect, or even weaknesses sometimes, and then he'll just hack away at you with volleys of arrows and just to be an ass, miasma and then death's door.

Also, to beat Medusa, make sure you're not weak to pierce and bring wind. Appreciate her art and then give a side-long glance and her stats plummet. Spam wind and she's dead. Honestly Medusa is, for the most part, easy. She's probably the easiest boss for most new players as they're over-leveled from the Minotaur and possibly Ares quest fights.

Thanks for all the Medusa advice.I fused Fortuna and beat her pretty easily, but how do I find the Tokyo military base?I've been looking for an hour.

ok...this is the biggest problem with the game, the map...

So the Military Base is actually a ways away, and you've got a lot to do between now and then. Find the town and ask around, you'll hear about some demon that moved into a lake area. He's your next boss (more of a mini-boss, but eh). Before you track him down, go out of the town and find a broken bridge area you can enter. A bunch of Kelpis will show up and talk about the demon you're after. After that go and find the guy, he'll be in an area connected to the town-area. He's not that tough, but I can't remember the strategy for him. Bring his head to the kelpis and they'll give you free crossing and you can continue on your way towards the next goal.

Basically don't search for the military base, search for the next way forward; the next goal that will open up more travel while looking into people who know where the base is. Also the map system sucks. A lot of quests/areas will tell you "north of X landmark," not telling you that the area north of said landmark could be blocked off and require you to enter it through a different path. There's an area you can enter by going around the tower and up north and to the west. It has a few items in it, but later on you'll get a quest to go fight a tough boss there, but the game will tell you "North of this town you'll find in a bit" instead of the actual way to get there.

tl;dr: memorize location names and from which area of Tokyo you enter that location from, or you're going to be lost about 75% of the game.

Appreciate her art
I will never understand how they actually put that in the game.
,but how do I find the Tokyo military base?I've been looking for an hour.
For enough information to actually understand what's going on and specifically to get directions to anywhere you basically need to just talk to everyone you can, you'll get there.

So I was stuck in the Cameron building for an HOUR
But I can't be too mad.leveled up like seven times and got a way better team,I'll tell you what.

That tends to happen. I was stuck in a later dungeon for awhile, got like 4 or so lvl ups and a ridiculous team

I believe this is the last member of the #FE crowd. This one is for you @SanoBaron

Toma Akagi

Toma is Itsuki and Tsubasa’s classmate. He’s a Mirage Master of Fault Entertainment who loves “henshin” (transformation) heroes. He’s a little frivolous in his speech and actions, but he’s the type that puts action before thoughts. He’s always wishing that he could be a hero, and is currently aiming to get the lead role in a Tokusatsu program called “Masqueraider”.

His Mirage is Cain.

So the theme is entertainment...I wonder if we'll get a navigator that works in stage design/technical work. Its not like a performance is all the actors. Hope we see some tangeable representation for the unseen parts of plays/movies/concerts/etc.

did you know Touma makes the pose of Kamen Rider Den-O during one of his special intros?

Missed these trailers but we have a clean gameplay and setting trailer for #FE. This is the kind of stuff I need to see to convince me that this would be worth playing.

[World Trailer]

[Gameplay Trailer]
All my earlier ranting about this being Persona x FE aside, this game does look a lot like Persona 3 in some areas. The idea that proximity to whatever malevolant forces are at play here causes people to become depressed reminds me of Nyx and Apathy Syndrome.

Combat looks clean, the Session mechanic is just the Demon Co-op attacks from Strange Journey where if you hit an enemy with their weakness party members of the same alignment would follow up with their own attack.

Aside from that the party is divided into the Main Cast and the Sub cast and even though it's a three man combat party, everyone gets xp at the end of combat.

I'm debating on whether or not to watch these, I've seen and read virtually nothing since the first trailer because I felt so negatively about it and haven't felt even remotely interested until now, and only slightly at that, but I think I'd much rather keep not paying attention so if it turns out the game is good I will have the pleasant surprise of a nice new game just coming out without ever waiting for it.

Though it is an Atlus game, no matter how I actually feel about it I'll probably end up with it anyway. It can sit with my sealed pre-order of Break Record.

one thing I would definitely say to keep in mind:

it's not entirely about idols. yes, there are idols in it, but they're part of what the entire main theme of the game is: the entertainment industry.

just something to keep in mind since I see a lot of people brush it off for that.
others have their own personal reasons all of which are fine.

i hope someone gets their life ruined for drug possession
that'd be pretty fun

we meet the ceo of the entertainment industry of all of japan
Mr. Dr. Actual J. Satan
he's actually Loki in disguise
but it's actually Nyarlathotep
the true Persona 5 starts now

We're never getting Satan back, are we?

Fun story, I'm at a convention this weekend and one of the panelists recently visited Japan. While he was there he saw, dramatic pause, PERSONAL 5 on sale. Had the pictures and everything.

Apparently Atlus pushed P5 back in the states because it is cheaper to import games from America and the English version will be region free.

Personal 5 you say? I doubt it'll be better than its predecessors, Emperical 4 and Firsthand 3.

Last one for sure this time. Main heroine time

[Tsubasa Oribe]
"Tsubasa is Itsuki’s childhood friend, and she has also awakened as a Mirage Master together with him. She joins Fault Entertainment as a new idol. She’s a foolhardy but hard worker, and stays focused once her mind is set on something. She’s never discouraged by her constant blunders, and has an optimistic personality. She’s a big fan of her senior, named Kiria."

There are many awful characters in #FE

This is the worst one.
