Skullgirls Lore Speculation

Cerebella is naive at best. Her misplaced affection for Vitale Medici could be from abandonment issues.
The Strokes - Life is Simple in the Moonlight said:
She sees her father in that old man's eyes
while secretly he stares at her thighs
I cut the misguided grl some slack. The only person we see her murder is Fortune. And even then she appears quite unhappy and remorseful even after getting what she wanted.

Now, thinking about Krieg... and Hungern... and Tod... Where's the Pest?

I assumed each member of the royal family carried a living weapon, and the Queen held the what is now the missing fourth. Poor "Pest" (is that the official name?) was probably obliterated in the battle to destroy Skullgirl Nancy Renoir.

Living Weapons vs. Synthetic Parasites
I think of it this way: some one in the past saw how parasites bonded with living things (humans, dogs, whatever) and thought what would happen if instead it was bonded with an inanimate object. So you end up with a hat or a rack of umbrellas that are part object and part parasite, fused. How? Don't know. Perhaps they use juvenile or primitive parasites (or another species of parasite) in the process. Start early so they don't develop a host dependence, but also don't evolve any kind of higher intelligence.

It is difficult to see the process going in reverse. It is hard to explain how a full-fledged parasite can be down-converted to a living weapon. The parasite needs a symbiotic relationship to live. Suddenly reversing that is a tall order. I mean, a sort of parasite lobotomy is possible, but I don't expect it would be very effective. (the idea the Four Horsemen themed weapons were once a gang of criminal is intriguing though)

Synthetic parasites are living weapons made from scratch. No parasite parts, all technology. So there's a spectrum. If parasites are blue and synthetic parasites are yellow, then living weapons are green.

CEREBELLA ISN'T PURE OF HEART YOU SOCIOPATHS. SHE'S A MURDERING MEDICI LAPDOG.

Talk about misinterpretation,
murdering Ms. Fortune was what made Cerebella no longer pure of heart, before then the most she had done was break a leg or stolen something, Fortune's ostensibly done as bad, just for her own family.
Plus the actual act of committing murder is what made Cerebella begin questioning her own allegiances, for as much shit as Bella gets for killing Fortune, people always tend to forget the immense guilt she felt immediately afterwards.

Cerebella's a piece of crap and I hold absolutely no sympathy for her, but that has nothing to do with lore speculation. You have your opinion of her and I have mine so let's just leave it at that.

I assumed each member of the royal family carried a living weapon, and the Queen held the what is now the missing fourth. Poor "Pest" (is that the official name?) was probably obliterated in the battle to destroy Skullgirl Nancy Renoir.

I derived "Pest" from the German word for Pestilence. As far as I know, we haven't heard anything canonical about a fourth canopy at all. It's pretty much all speculation on my part. Hell, Tod (Death) was only barely in the reference materials. Still, Pestilence does go well with a terrifying Skullgirl zombie plague, so the Queen having it works pretty well, actually. Could be like Marie's vacuum cleaner of doom.

...And, dang it, I just broke my own theory.

Given that synthetic parasites are possible, it's probably simpler to incorporate synthetic Theon features into artificial "Living" weapons. I mean, you could theoretically build a Living Weapon out of death Parasite parts- and, probably, a lot of the earlier ones did just that- but with newer technological developments, it'd be redundant. Like trying to kill elephants with ivory.

Good read, I didn't see that thread before. Thanks!
Now, now, "pure evil" is still "pure."
Besides, Cerberus can guard Hades and still be a good widdle puppy, yes he is, yes he is!
So, thinking about a line from Eliza's story mode...

Humankind twists the facts of our lives into fairy tales. We grace them with power as their champions, and they call us Parasites or reduce our brethren to mere tools.

I think Alex Ahad said the Parasites and Living Weapons have "related, unrevealed origins," no? And that LW have a limited sentience, somewhat akin to a dog?

As such, I think the Living Weapons are Parasites that have had their human-connectivity parts removed, effectively lobotomizing them.

Now, thinking about Krieg... and Hungern... and Tod... Where's the Pest? We know that Krieg was handed down throughout the Renoire family for generations. And that, according to the wiki, "Some Parasites can go into 'minimal' states like a bacteria going into a cyst form, but it won’t last them forever."

I think that, way back when, there was likely some sort of "Four Horsemen Gang" that the Renoires fought on their rise to power. War/Famine/Death were captured and converted to something a little more malleable, but Pestilence got away. Pest can hide. Pest can be patient. Always there, never quite eliminated. "Like a bacteria." Corrupting the Canopy from the roots. Watching. Waiting for the right time to strike.

Now, what about Vice Versa?

Well, we know the Medicis made a LOT of enemies over the years. And we know Cerebella's the only person who's been able to properly use Vice Versa. Given this speculation on how to make Living Weapons, I think there was some goody-goody with a parasite who hated the Medicis and tried to break their operations. The Medicis won, killed the host, and attempted making the parasite a tool they could use. However, they didn't have quite the scientific resources of the Renoires, so the Medicis got something a little more finicky. A proper Mafioso would likely get choked by the hat as soon as he put it on, but if somebody with the original host's nature were to wear it... somebody pure of heart, like a certain circus acrobat... the hat might be more receptive.
It is good to see another like minded individual!

That is true!
Cerebella in my eyes is nothing more than a naive girl with Daddy issues, that tries to do right but unknowingly does wrong, by doing right.
Her murdering someone is what crosses the line for her because she knows that no matter what side Medici or not murdering is wrong, no matter the reasoning.
This revelation of her actually doing something purely bad from all sides of the fence is what made her question if she has been doing stuff like this for a long time and just was too blind with the want of a father figure's affection to see it.

So cerebella is not evil,

just a complete moron with no sense of morality.

In my opinion since Parasites are made out of Theonite, mainly, then why can't people just build a synthetic one from scratch with Theonite.
Also be in mind that your theory is not dead because the synthetic parasites are New and have been only used outside of mainstream military development, the Labs' leaders being the only ones with the knowledge on how to build them and one of them being dead and the other one kept in shroud. Because of this making Living weapons out of lobotomized parasites would continue to be used and I wouldn't think that the technology for synthetics is going to come out until a very long time.

I say again, by that logic Fortune also has no sense of morality because she too commits petty crimes and attacks people who endanger her family.
She's simply marginally less naive.

At least Fortune targets other criminals and gives back to her community. At least the family that she's defending isn't a group of terrible people. At least she can be properly labeled a good guy.

I'm way more forgiving of thieves than thugs.

Wow the new audio lines are great.
Kinda wondering where I go to discuss them...

Either way, Peacock, Cerebella and Parasoul have gotten me even more excited about Beowulf!

Parasoul's new lines seem to indicate he once was in the Canopy military. Maybe an Ex-Egret?

If Beowulf's story is Canopy-centered, that'd be neat. Squig's & Eliza's stories are firmly on the overall Trinity Arc and Big Band was more street level, so maybe Beo is somewhere in between those?

Wait what new audio lines? All I've heard that's different is that characters yell out "Beowulf" when calling him in.

(Try Parasoul vs Eliza.)
The mods are changing my posts now, what the fuck?
It doesn't even answer my question about Beowulf.

I do know that there's a couple of egret soldiers and one of them kinda looks like Beowulf... but I forgot which one.

So Parasoul said that Beowulf has been... over his head?

She also said "You served our cause back then." Amazing!

They've got some new pre-round introduction lines for Eliza, Beowulf and Big Band as well as new ones for losing and winning against them.
But I don't think Valentine and Fortune don't have anything new yet.

Merry Christmas Zen!

Interestingly, I remember a while back, someone asked Alex whether Beowulf used to serve in the military, and Alex's answer was negative (I don't remember exactly if he denied it outright or if he said he hadn't thought about it). If this is truly the case that Beowulf is now canonically an ex-soldier, then it seems that we have another fan-inspired idea making its way into SG canon.

OR maybe due to the Canopy Kingdom being anti-Gigan and stuff, Beowulf killing Grendel's mother would already serve their cause.

Parasoul also says "Take him to custody!" after defeating Beowulf. What does that mean?

The fact that Beowulf now needs to have a story mode probably is forcing Alex to build up his lore and create new character relationships. I mean I love Cerebella, but at the moment she's the only playable character with a history with Beowulf and she JUST had a big role in Eliza's story. Poor Parasoul's biggest role outside her story was a brief confrontation in Squigly's, so maybe Alex views this as an opportunity to show some Parasoul love (which I am totally on board with, she's very underutilized for such a cool chick)

It means he's gettin arrested.
By the way, I don't get these lines. Played in arcade and nobody says a thing. Is it just me? Can anybody get them with Skullmod?

Beowulf was a character with exactly one line of lore before the IGG, guys: "he's a famous wrestler." The lore for him now could literally be anything, now that Alex is forced to write more. I like to think that Beowulf will be this Forrest Gump type of link to every major event in the Skullverse for the last 20+ years, totally by chance.

"Momma Wolf always said life is like a Wrestling Event. You never know whose gonna step into the ring"

Oh, I never properly expressed how much I love this idea.
Which is weird because I love it a lot.

Beowulf's status as a joke-but-not-quite-a-joke character actually leaves the door open for tons of story exploration, and his story mode is presumably the last real one we'll get in Skullgirls 1, so I'm hoping Alex is packing as much into it as possible (maybe that's contributing to the delays?).

The great thing about Beowulf is that his character is so versatile. He's open for anything. Since nothing much was set in the story beforehand (Andy Anvil mentions Beowulf is coming out of retirement in Peacock's story) he can go and do anything in the Skullgirls universe and it will be awesome. But here's hoping he at least tosses Lorenzo Medici off the tower, suplexes Black Dhalia into power lines, and throws Vitale Medici through a window.

Okay, here's a lore hypothesis I want to run by: Leviathan ate Squigly's left eye.

Evidence
panel 1: Dying Roberto Contiello commands Leviathan, soaked in blood and slithering over to Squigly, to help her resist the Skullgirl's control.
panel 2-4: POV shot, bloody Leviathan pouncing into Squigly's fading vision and then *CHOMP*
YwmN7Y1.jpg
Essentially, with no time to be delicate, Leviathan had to go through Sienna's eye to get in the brain and do whatever parasites do to bond with a host and wrest control from Selene Contiello in full Skullgirl mode. Squigly is already fatally injured by Black Dahlia, so there isn't much Leviathan can do, but he manages to keep from becoming a mindless minion.

And one probably cannot attribute the loss of the left eye to rot. Even at Squigly's "funeral" her hair was tastefully combed over her eye, implying it was gone.

Always thought the eye was shot out by Black Dahlia.

I was expecting some silly head canon like you would find in the Squigly Fanboy Thread, but that makes a lot of sense.
Always thought the eye was shot out by Black Dahlia.
Black Dahlia shot her through the side of the head, it wouldn't make any sense for the exit wound to be her eye.

Not to mention that it was once stated that her neck sliced and mouth stitched shut, so B. Dahlia taking out her eye is too far off we saw her get shot (kinda) but everything wasn't shown

One question that I always wondered was "How does Leviathan normally join with his hosts?"
With Squigly, it was a combination of Black Dahlia having shot a hole through her head and Leviathan eating her eye. I would assume that joining with Leviathan under normal circumstances would be a lot less morbid.

Anyone have a theory about this?

Well... Actually that dosn't make scence...

Becuase the hole in the side of her head is completely leviathan Shaped. It has the perfect amount of space for Leviathans width. I donno art and real life are wierd man.

Black Dahlia and Medici goons crash the party. They sweep the crowd, spraying dozens of Contiello family and friends with machinegun fire. Dahlia grabs Sienna and threatens Selene and Roberto to hand over the Skull Heart. Panicked and confused, the parents either agree or not, it doesn't matter, Black Dahlia murders her hostage anyway. Selene, perhaps holding the box that strange woman (Double) gave her earlier in the birthday party, full of grief and rage, makes a wish for her family to come back.

I'd like to think Roberto survived the initial assault by having Leviathan spring out of his shoulder and spiral into a Captain America shield to block a hail of bullets. Teamed with Leviathan, he might of taken down some of the Medici henchmen, but he's no match for the speed of the cyborg elf assassin.

How Leviathan normally transfers
Caught up in the moment, bursting through shoulders and gnawing through optic canals that's how Lev might have transferred. Passed down through generations of the Contiello family, I agree, there must be something less violent. Perhaps Leviathan could spin himself into a long thread, like spider silk to ease from one ear to another. The elderly Contiello, ready for death, urges Leviathan to part to a young Contiello who is old enough to know what they are agreeing to. Maybe Lev can simply reach out and "melt" into the new host's skin, or travel via something not unlike a simple blood transfusion. All very peaceful and almost painless, but incredibly slow processes.

That...sounds really iffy to me, Leviathan doesn't really display any signs of being able to do such things, plus all of his spacial manipulation is probably due to the Skullheart. While I agree he would TRY to be gentle, I don't think that fusing with a parasite is anything less then painful.

I'm sure Leviathan doesn't work like a snake, but a giant tapeworm parasite. That's waaaaay far than feeling nice. I have pics that show what I mean but trust me, you don't wanna see them.

Maybe Leviathan works like a thesarus? Sits around and eventually gets used when you try to sound smart?
