Skullgirls Original / Fan Character Thread

@MirrorByte Hey!
I had some free time to kill so I made this quick sketch based on Dupli-kate on the skullgirls style.

Whoa! It looks just like a rough sketch that would be from the actual game! Wish I had such skill! XD

Thank you for saying that!, I'm nowere near as skilled as I need to be to make a proper skullgirls styled character but for now it gets the job done...
I could provide with an emty sketch.. what I mean by this is to post a character empty sheet where anyone could add their characer's characteristics on top of it. (But only the female skullgirls type body)

Yes! Finally done! I'll gladly take any criticism, so if you have any, feel free to give it.
Name:Twyla Leggani
Age: 21
Race: Human
Blood Type: A
Height: 5'3
Weight: 120 lb.
Measurements: Unknown
Likes: Dancing, Performing, Friendliness, Wine, Fireworks
Dislikes: Being made fun of, Hostility, Guns and other lethal weapons, misuse of special abilities, The Skullgirl
Story: Starting out as a poor girl living in Maple Crest, Twyla aspired to be a dancer. At eighteen, she left to the heart of New Meridian in order to live out her dreams. She quickly became a small star in the city for her quick, agile dance moves. However, Twyla had one obstacle in her way to the top- she couldn't dance with someone else, mainly because she never deemed anyone agile enough to keep up with her. As her crowd started to wane, Twyla became desperate to introduce something new. However, he luck changed when she received a mysterious gift- a golden anklet with rubies adorning it. Attached to it was a not that read, "The solution to all your problems." While she never found out who delivered it to her, or how it was supposed to solve her problems, she put it on during her shows anyway as a sign of appreciation. One night soon after, she was attacked after a show by a thug who charged at her with a knife. She held up her arms in front of her, expecting death at any moment. However, she heard the thug grunt, and the sound of him hitting the ground. Puzzled, she looked up to see an amazing sight- a red, translucent form similar to herself had attacked the thug and stood battle ready. The being coaxed Twyla into the fight. To her surprise, the hologram used dance moves to attack the foe, which Twyla did her best to replicate. After a short beating, the thug took off running. The figure dissolved into the anklet. Then, she heard the harsh voice of a woman coming from her anklet. The voice explained herself to be a synthetic parasite named Alecto, who was deliberately designed to look like an anklet. She couldn't remember who built her or why, but she did know what Twyla would now be able to do with her power in tow. While she wouldn't cause any harm to Twyla, Alecto was now attached to her new host's ankle, and removing her would mean severing Twyla's leg. Fortunately, Alecto made up for this by giving Twyla increased agility, flexibility, and strength, and even she could emerge as an energy being to assist in battle. Over the next month, the two became so close, that they could almost be almost be considered one being, as they could nearly share thoughts. After noticing a steep decline in Twyla's audience, Alecto offered to help in her performance by acting as her dance partner and help defend against those who would wish to hurt her. A few years after, the two became renowned for their strange, mystical dancing. However, when the Skullgirl emerged, Alecto became antsy and pushed Twyla to go after her. Despite her reluctance, Twyla agreed, and the two began their hunt for the Skullgirl.
Gameplay: Twyla is a quick, agile fighter meant for close range combat. Her moves are similar to many dance styles, such as acro and modern. She can easily create combos and keep them going with relative ease. Her special moves revolve around Alecto's abilities, including energy based whips and energy shots. For her blockbusters, Alecto emerges in her holograph form and the duo perform attacks similar to common dance forms. When used at full strength, Twyla can warp to the location of Alecto's hologram.
Gameplay Inspiration: Zero (MvC3)
Felicia(Darkstalkers Series)
Appearance: Twyla is very thin. Her hair is a dark blonde, with a long braid at the back that stretches near shoulder level. Towards the front, the hair is long and a bit messy. Her eyes are an amber color. Her facial features are rounded and smooth. She wears a blood red, sleeveless dress with golden hexagonal pattern which grows and thickens towards her bottom right side. The right side of her dress goes down to her knee, while the left side goes to a bit below the mid-section of her thigh. It splits in the front and back at a bit above halfway down her thigh. On her ankle is Alecto, which has the appearance of a wide, golden anklet. There is one large ruby in the middle of Alecto, and four smaller rubies surrounding the large one. Each ruby has a "vortex" pattern surrounding it.
Palettes: Palette 1: Original colors.
Palette 2: Twyla's hair and eyes are now pink. Her dress is white, and the pattern is still gold. Alecto's gems are pink, and the metal is still gold. Based on Olivia from Fire Emblem: Awakening.
Palette 3: Twyla's hair is now white and her eyes are black. Her dress is a light purple, and the pattern is now white. Alecto's gems are now amethysts, and the metal is now silver. Based on Sveta from Golden Sun: Dark Dawn.
Palette 4: Twyla's hair and eyes are blue. Her dress is white with a pink hexagon pattern. Alecto is white with blue gems. Based on Felicia from the Darkstalkers series
Palette 5: Twyla's hair is deep red and her eyes are a bright, bloody red. Her skin is now a pure pink color. Her dress is violet and the pattern is a pale blue. Alecto's metal is pink, and her gems are lime green. Based on Queen Ophicua from Megaman Starforce.
Personality: Twyla- Twyla is usually very ditzy and naïve. She often jumps into situations before figuring out what's going on, and often gets lost in her daydreams. However, she always tries to do good whenever she can and often attempts to fix her own mistakes, and, despite her nature, is not easily persuaded.
Alecto- Alecto is usually very cold and bitter to strangers. She usually views criticizes their flaws and attempts to drive them off with insults. However she has a soft side which is only expressed to others if Twyla trusts them. This warm side sees a friendly, good natured Alecto who shows an almost unnatural childish attitude.

Intro Pose: (facing right) Twyla waves and blows a kiss towards the camera before taking her stance.
Idle Pose: Twyla holds her fists out in front of her a bit below chest. Her feet are spread apart a bit and she bounces back and forth on the balls of her feet. She innocently smiles at her opponent.
Walk: Twyla cautiously steps toward the opponent, lowering her fists a bit. When walking backwards, Twyla moonwalks.
Dash: Twyla gracefully spins forward.
Block: Twyla holds her arms up in front of her and flinches. Meanwhile, a large, translucent shield created by Alecto floats in front of Twyla. When crouching, Twyla will hold the edge of the shield.
K.O. Pose: Twyla lays on her side, facing away from the camera. A moment after she goes down, Alecto will flash, then her light will fade.
Time-Up Pose: Twyla slumps to the ground with a disappointed look. She then begins sobbing as Alecto emerges from her body in her energy form, comforting Twyla and glaring at the opponent.
Victory Poses: Pose 1- Alecto emerges in her energy form and she joins Twyla in bowing towards the camera.
Pose 2- Twyla waves to the opponent and then casually walks off stage.
Large Theater
This stage takes place on the literal stage of a grand theater. Spotlights at the edge of the stage illuminate the battle. In the background, a crowd of well-dressed men and women can be seen spectating the fight. On either side of the stage, a red curtain can be seen. After a blockbuster, the lights at the edge of the stage will flicker and spotlights located on a catwalk at the top of the stage will flash. When the fight ends, the curtains pull together in the background.
Intro: Setting: Large Theater
Dialogue: Alecto: "Alright, Twyla. You said 'one more show.' Now the show's over! Let's get going!"
Twyla: "Why do you want to go after that Skullgirl so bad? Are you wanting me to make some sort of wish or something?"
Alecto: "Of course not! It's just... I don't like her being around. Something's pulling me towards her, something deep inside me. I don't know why, but we just have to destroy her!"
Twyla: "But we don't even know where she is! Where do we look?"
Alecto: "I think I can feel her... I know it sounds ridiculous, but I think I can track her down."
Twyla: "Are you sure?"
Alecto: "Sure I am! Come on, have I ever mislead you?"
Twyla: "Well, there was that one time-"
Alecto: "Okay, forget that. We have to get a move on before someone else gets that Skullgirl!"
Twyla: "If you say so!"

V.S. Parasoul (Glass Canopy)

V.S. Big Band (New Meridian Rooftops)

Setting: Maplecrest
Dialogue: Twyla: "So many people are after the Skullgirl."
Alecto: "That's because her Skullheart can grant a woman's any wish."
Twyla: "Any wish, huh? I wonder..."
Alecto: "Don't look forward to that wish, Twyla. The Skullheart corrupts those with hearts impure so... wait... how did I know- Twyla, look out!"
Twyla: "Whoa!"
Painwheel: "You!"
Twyla: "Alecto, what is that thing?!"
Alecto: "I don't know, but... it looks so familiar..."
Twyla: "Oh... here it comes!"
Alecto: "Get ready!"

V.S. Painwheel (Maplecrest)

Dialogue: Alecto: "There. It's down."
Twyla: "Why did that thing attack us?"
Alecto: "I'm not sure, but I'm sure I've seen it before... We'll have to focus on this later. The Skullgirl is moving."
Twyla: "Really? And we were so close, too."
Alecto: "Come on! We have to hurry!"

V.S. Squigly (Streets of New Meridian)

Setting: Rooftop Assault
Dialogue: Alecto: "Look! There she is!"
Twyla: "What is she doing?!"
Alecto: "Looks like she's going after the Medici. Let's attack now!"
Twyla: "No way! She's armed with half of a building! I don't think it'd be wise to strike now!"
Alecto: "Fine. Wait 'til she's done, and then we'll pounce!"
Peacock: "If you survive until then."
Twyla: "Huh?"
Peacock: "Now what's a fancy looking lady like you doing with a haunted piece of jewelry?"
Alecto: "Back off! You've go no business messing with us!"
Avery: "Hey, boss! Doesn't that anklet look familiar?"
Peacock: "Now that you mention it, it does! It looks like... Sorry, high life, but I'm gonna pry that anklet off your leg if it kills you!"
Alecto: "Not today! Let's go, Twyla!"
Twyla: "..."

V.S. Peacock (Rooftop Assault)

Dialogue: Peacock: "Not bad for a wimp and her jewelry!"
Alecto: "Enough funny business! Tell me how you know me!"
Peacock: "You seriously don't know? Pretty dumb, for a parasite. Tell you what; go kill that Skullgirl, and smash the Skullheart and you'll figure it all out!"
Alecto: "Wait, get back here! Darn, she's gone!"
Twyla: "According to her, we need to get that Skullgirl if we're ever going to figure anything out."
Alecto: "Even more reason to hunt her down. I sense that she's heading back to that big cathedral. You ready for this, Twyla?"
Twyla: "Yeah. Let's go!"

Setting: Grand Cathedral (Empty)
Dialogue: Twyla: "Are you sure about this, Alecto? This seems like a rather awkward place for a Skullgirl to hide."
Alecto: "No, she's here. I can feel her..."
Double: "Your friend is not mistaken. The Skullgirl is indeed here, in the catacombs below. But before you are to meet her, you must prove yourself"

V.S. Double & Valentine (Grand Cathedral)

Dialogue: Alecto: "Twyla... are you sure you want to follow through with this? I brought you all the way here without even consulting you. You must be terrified."
Twyla: "Don't worry, Alecto. I want to help you discover your past as well!"
Alecto: "But this is the most dangerous situation I could ever put you in!"
Twyla: "And since you want to go trough with it, I have to support you. What else are friends for?"
Alecto: "Thanks, Twyla... Now let's get down there and get that Skullgirl!"

Setting: Catacombs
Dialogue:
Twyla: "That's her..."
Alecto: "Hey, Skullgirl! Sorry to burst your bubble, but we're taking you down!"
Marie: "I'd expect no less from you and your puppet, seeing as how this was your purpose."
Twyla: "What'd you call me?!"
Alecto: "What 'purpose' are you talking about?!"
Marie: "Your whole purpose for being created was to destroy me."
Alecto: "So that's why I was drawn towards you..."
Twyla: "But what did you mean by 'puppet?'"
Marie: "You'll see in due time. For now, come. We shall see if you complete your task!"

V.S. Marie (Final Atrium)

Dialogue: Alecto: "Now Twyla! Smash it!"
Skullheart: "Fools! You only delay the inevitable! I shall return!"

Setting: Big Theater
Dialogue: Twyla: "it's too bad we didn't learn anything more about you, Alecto."
Alecto: "Actually... I did. You might want to sit down a minute. I don't know how it happened, but when you smashed the heart, I unlocked some sort of audio file. Listen..."
Man's Voice: "Research log thirty-three; project Erinyes and project Hades. Years ago, we began work on my models for three parasites; Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone. They were meant to be attached to a single host, and were outfitted with nearly human AI and energy regulators in order to optimize function and safety. However, the AI units became too independent, and would let us reprogram them. Therefore, we made Hades, an AI designed to control them all. Somehow, "he" was corrupted as well, and used the three parasite's powers to cause mayhem. Before we could wipe his data from the parasites, he implanted his own data in their code, and from this data, new Hades models will control and manipulate their parasites, and to a greater extent, their parasite's host. And that's where you come in, Alecto. I want you and your new host to find Erebus, our unit designed for containing Hades' data, so that we can save you from destruction. Your host was the best fitting out of all potential subjects, so you should be in good hands. Your siblings should find a way... I hope. Be careful, Alecto. And to you as well, Twyla."
Twyla: "So you're infected by a virus and if we don't get it out..."
Alecto: "It will destroy us both, yes."
Twyla: "Do you know where Erebus is?"
Alecto: "No clue. Don't know why I wouldn't know..."
Twyla: "Well do you know how long we have to get rid of Hades before...?"
Alecto: "Yeah. I can measure it's growth with another functionality that I'm guessing the man we heard in the audio clip uploaded. And right now, combined with it's level of development and rate of growth, we have nothing to worry about. We'll still have plenty of time to get rid of it."
Twyla: "So we're still safe. That's good, but..."
Alecto: "The other Erinyes, Tisiphone and Megaera. They couldn't know about Hades, because this information could only be unlocked if they destroyed the Skullheart. I wonder how they're doing..."
Twyla: "Perhaps we could... I know it sounds crazy, but maybe we could find them?"
Alecto: "Well... it's the only thing we can do. We have to find and help them and their hosts before Hades takes over. Plus, we need to unlock the advanced holograph function. This is going to be tough, Twyla. You think you're up to it?"
Twyla: "Certainly! What are friends for?"
Alecto: "But we have no clue where Tisiphona, Megaera, or Erebus are. It could take forever to find them."
Twyla: "Just like the Skullgirl. Don't worry Alecto; I'm not letting Hades take over without a fight!"
Alecto: "Twyla... thanks..."
Well, I scraped some moves together. Probably not the best move set, but c'est la vie.

:QCF::P: Thunder Clap: Twyla claps, using Alecto's power to launch a bolt of electricity at the foe.

:DP::P: Grape Vine: Using Alecto's powers, Twyla forms a whip which she uses for a mid-range strike at the foe.

:QCB::P: (:P::Arrow::P:)Chaine Attack: Twyla spins forward with her arms extended, striking the foe. The foe can be hit two additional times.

:QCB::K: Vicious Valdez: Twyla flips backwards, kicking the foe and moving backwards slightly.

:RDP::P: Savage Swizzle: Alecto emerges in her energy form and Twyla swings her towards the enemy. This move will knock the opponent down if it hits.

:DP::K: Whirlwind Kick: Alecto emerges in her energy form. Then, Twyla rapidly spins her, dealing damage to any foe in range.

:QCB::P:+:P: Pitch Tuck Pummel (Lv.1 Blockbuster): Alecto emerges in energy form. Twyla flips Alecto towards the foe. After landing, Alecto will unleash a barrage of blows on the opponent. Then, she'll knock the foe towards Twyla, who will kick the foe away. While the opponent recovers, Alecto will dissolve back into the anklet. During this move, Twyla will stay in one place and is still vulnerable.

:QCF::K:+:K: Daring Flurry (Lv.1 Blockbuster): Twyla ejects Alecto from the anklet into her energy form, sending her darting towards the enemy. If this first attack connects, then Alecto will unleash a multitude of attacks on the foe. Her final hit dazes them, allowing Twyla to finish the move with a more powerful version of Thunder Clap.

:RDP: :P:+:P: Lead and Follow (Lv.3 Blockbuster): Twyla unleashes a flurry of hits upon the foe, with Alecto in her energy form mimicking the moves, following behind her host. For the final hit, Twyla uses Alecto's energy whip to swing the opponent into the air and then slam them into the ground.
Twyla: "Let's dance!"
Alecto: "I'm with you!"

Or something like this... If anyone wants to use this as a shape reference for a character, feel free to use it, it's somewhat based on filia's body shape but a bit more mature and less chunky-

Well, I've had no negativity or positivity towards this character. So... success, I suppose? Any-who, I did have an idea for another, so I'll probably upload it when I work it out.

Sorry, for the late response to the character. Been doing verbs.

I am somewhat confused as to what the "machinery" and "mechanism" is. You say that it's weapon compartments, but those could come in an infinite array of shapes and sizes. So, I can't really get a good image of what the character actually looks like besides a thin guy in a suit, since there's kind of a void in my mind in place of half of what the character is about.

Also, what exactly is a "hold-out" blade? I tried looking up "hold-out," but since it's such a vague term, I got a metric ton of clutter.

I think that each mode should probably have two Level One Blockbusters, that way a Super possibility isn't locked off just because he's in one mode and not the other. Each mode could even have one of the Level Ones transform him into the other mode at the end of it automatically without leaving him open to counter-hit.

Also, the Level Three and Level Five seem like they should be swapped, since all the Level Fives in the game are pretty gimmicky in one way or another, where most Level Threes are pretty straight-forward.

Thanks for the feedback! I knew there was something off about it. I'll go back and make edits where needed
Also, a hold-out was a simple cheating tool used in poker back in the old days, designed to hold a card until the cheater needed it. It looks kind of like a small spade head. Sorry about the vagueness.

Thank you!
That would seriously help me find her a fitting name.. for now I named her Kara.

With a name like that, she better have some swanky Kara-Cancels. Also because I love Kara-Cancels to death. But the name just makes it a necessity.

Scarves are awesome.

(I might do an actual critique later, but that's my "input" for right now.)

Oh, yeah, I guess this thread did die. Maybe I should, like, say something about it.

I ducked my head out for three primary reasons:
  1. I had already written everything about my characters and didn't need to stick around to work on them. Sure, I've tried to write complete movelists or voice reels for Mr. Eus and Alissa, but they never go far. The truth is, I don't have the ability to come up with cleverness for all across that. And if I can't do it for Eus & Alissa, well, that means Doublood is just short on luck.
  2. People stopped calling for me by name to give feedback on their characters. The offer to give feedback on a character still does exist, but no one asked. And since no one was being specifically good nor specifically terrible since Luke, I said nothing. And it's not like the characters themselves were motivating me to give feedback...and that's another thing.
  3. The characters started to bore me. I swear, there was a section in this thread where there were at least four new characters in a row that could all be boiled down to "disgusted or personally wronged by the Medici and armed themselves with their background experience to kick them off their high horse." It's almost become a cliche, for whatever reason; those characters are rapidly becoming a dime-a-dozen, and it bores me to tears. Though I will say that DupliKate and Twyla are looking alright so far.
So that's why I left...but again, the offering for feedback is still there. Just ring the magical @CHAOS_FANTAZY bell, and I shall appear.

Well, I can certainly see where you're coming from. But I just had to do that with Lamont. I knew it'd be sort of a cliché, but I couldn't find any other way to give him such a drive to be a vigilante. I just couldn't help myself. At least I did halfway avoid the "past experience" thing and went with a "kind of former worker for the Mafia" backstory. It's just kind of hard to make a vigilante-like character without linking them back to the biggest non-supernatural threat in the game. But if I'm being honest... it kind of bored me too. I'm not sure what to do about it though. I still want him to hate the Mafia, but not for the traditional vengeance reason. Perhaps I could change it. After all, I did say he came from a long line of criminals. Maybe I could work that in somehow...
Also, thanks for the positivity for Twyla. :)

First off, let me just say that it irked me - way more than it should have - that the bullet numbers on the side refuse to be edited even when removing parts of the quote, it makes the quote inaccurate and I am a stickler for details.

Anyway, for point "number one (grumble grumble - system making the quote lie - grumble grumble)," when I saw that the thread was dead, I wasn't gonna' give feedback on any, since - well - the thread was dead. But now I plan on giving feedback on all the ones that came after mine, since I saw the users actually still using the thread, so I may go back and review yours as well.

And as for point "number two," that is exactly why I personally prefer to design my characters' move-lists and aesthetic design first, then conceptualize as to WHY they would be that way. It - usually - lends more flexibility to story possibilities and makes the story more organic, as opposed to saying "this is what happened to my character, and this is what it made them turn out to be." Because the latter way kind of short-stops the character's potential, especially if you have to scrap or change the story in some way. Just my two cents on the matter, since other people could possibly work better in that second fashion.

I don't mean to offend, but to be quite honest, I disagree with your method of building characters. Like you, I like to start with a unique concept for fighting. Coming up with a new ability for a character to use, even if it is a twist on an old ability, does miles for your creativity. But after that, nothing is more important than the backstory. I have a neat ability, now I need to explain how they got it—and their behavior and their appearance will no doubt be shaped by what happened to them in their life. I understand that I'm in the minority, but this character-creation process has helped me design what I would dare to call more interesting characters as a result.

This is where Triad falls flat to me. From your lengthy explanation of your design process, I see a disjointed idea that doesn't click with the Skullgirls universe. The supposed "triad" of organic parasite, synthetic parasite, and Living Weapon doesn't really have any evidence to suggest that it really exists, and if it did, there's even less to suggest it would all embody itself in a single person. And since he lacks a backstory (Or a personality, for that matter), he can't justify anything about his circumstance to me, or tell me who he is as a character—so my interest in him remained at zero.

I totally agree with everything Chaos said, and have nothing to add. So instead, I'll ask some character/story based questions!

@Ace Chosen

Where did Triad get two parasites and a living weapon?

Was he already into Roman culture before he got them, or did that come after?

Is he trained, or does he completely rely on his equipment?

How did he prevent Soul Contamination?

Why does it matter that he has all these things? i.e. What are his motivations/reason for fighting?

Okay, made some major edits to Lamont. I feel that this story fits him way better! ... Sorry if this seems a bit off topic, but I felt that @CHAOS_FANTAZY was kind of aiming towards me with that bullet no. 3, and I couldn't help but use it as constructive criticism... So you guys just keep talking about Triad and I'll move out of your way!

No offense taken, it just seems that we differ in interest on the different aspects of a character. I do not have the biography uploaded here yet (I will have to scrounge through a ton of flash-drives to find it), and for you, that entirely kills of the character. Where for me, when I see a character on here with no moves at all, or even just an incomplete list of Normals, I lose interest pretty easily. I'm probably the only one like that on this thread, since it IS in the artwork section - I just didn't feel it appropriate to make an "Original Characters Moves-List and Game-Play" thread in a technical section, since it would almost certainly get pasted over to here.

You probably are not in the minority at all, I'm pretty sure most people do design then history as opposed to my design then moves-list.

If I do find that biography, I might change it as I see fit. I don't really recall what it was about at all (again, not a guy who's big on narrative, for anything, shows through a lot), I merely recall that I made it all - design finalization, move-list (though I changed that recently, since I'm a move-list kind of guy), quotes, and history - in one day two years ago. Since I always feel that I'll lose ideas if I take a break in doing something. I know that that doesn't excuse the lack of a posted story, but my actual excuse is that I just never care about narrative that much.

(@Bucky Barkley) I will answer those as soon as I find the flash drive that has the narrative information on it, if I still have that one.

I DO know the answer to the question about his interest in Roman culture though. No, he was not that interested in Roman culture, he was more into Greek stuff. Because flat, pseudo-irony is a good portion of Skullgirls (a cat person hanging out in a fish town, a character about brawn being named after part of the brain, female character being named after a male bird, the grotesque experiment whose name is a pun on a child's toy, et cetera, and et cetera), and because I enjoy flat "jokes."

All, in all. Sorry, I just can't get interested in a character narrative. Never had it happen yet, not sure if it ever will.

Just curious, but how so?

I'm pretty sure that I've mentioned in in a lot more complexity on your character's own thread thing, but nonetheless, if the best critique is "Ew, furry," then they don't have a valid argument and should be ignored.

The Internet seems to congregate in a huge herd of hatred for things that don't deserve that much - in any - hatred. Such a fedoras (I seriously NEVER understood the hatred for them, I've never owned one, but there is no need for the hatred of them, they are hats), Comic Sans font (it's a font, and one never has to use it if they do not wish to), anthropomorphic animals or humans with animal traits (that imagery has been used throughout all of history in almost every culture), and famous pop-stars (just because you don't like it doesn't mean other people can't). So, yeah, that's just generic Internet bandwagon hate. Ignore it with a fiery passion.

I like long tangents too much.

First you steal the name Ace from me, now you steal Minerva as a Synthetic Parasite, for shame!

Joking, by the way, in case you couldn't tell.

Ace is a pretty commonplace name for characters, and one of the most fun parts about a Skullgirls character are the allusions to past mythology and history, so that explains Minerva.

Heck, there was probably at least either an Ace or a Minerva (or Athena) on somebody's character before, since they are pretty popular names and figures, and I didn't check ALL of the characters in this thread before posting (because some people had so many words, just, so many).

And your ideas are neat anyway. The dance-theme almost reminds me of the Wii Fit Trainer in Smash Bros. Just surprised that you didn't go with Terpsichore, the muse of dance, since you went for a Greco-Roman name for a dancing character. But Minerva fits too, with the wisdom in battle, representing the beautiful and artistic side of warfare and whatnot.

(@ReluctantZombie)

Good. Very good. Surprisingly little visual art here for being in the visual art section. Could always use more.

Ok, gonna delete the post with my OC and put it on this page. Not because I'm "bumping" said OC, but rather it's kind of outdated and the old one needs deletion. Anyways:

Link to artist original: http://penguinexperience.deviantart.com/art/Commission-Sketch-Mallis-453276116
Bio(WIP):

Mallis is an 11 year old fox girl who's parents were an up and coming crime couple, so to speak. Unfortunatly, the other mob families decided to put them down before they got too big.
Mallis was able to survive by her parents hiding her in a trash can in their house before they were ruthlessly cut down. Mallis, now alone and afraid, wandered the streets for weeks, with orphanages refusing her due to her past ties with crime life. She scrounged for any form of money to get food to survive, being as she didn't want to resort to theft. The other mobs knew she survived but considered her no threat so they pretty much ignored her. Mallis catches wind one day of the skullheart and now seeks it to bring back her family.

Standing
:LP:: A quick jab with a dagger
:MP:: A forward slice with one dagger
:HP:: A spin of sorts with daggers extended that goes forwards a bit, hits twice
:LK:: A quick shin kick
:MK:: An extended leg kick(Think like Ken from SF3's MK)
:HK:: A quick roundhouse that moves forward a bit
-Leaping Kick Back-(While dashing forwards) :PP:: She does a leap and if it connects, bounces back off the opponent, putting them in a knocked down state(opponent isn't knocked down if blocked)

-Head Bounce-(While dashing forwards) :KK:: She does a leap to the opponent's head, which if it connects, she bounces forwards off of them, putting them in a knocked down state(opponent isn't knocked down if blocked)

-Quick Escape-:HCB:or :HCF:+ :P:: She does a quick low leap that is invincible until the last 3 frames of the animation and can pass through anything. Has a 5 sec CD, and a 2 frame start-up. Direction is determined by if it was half-circle forward or back.

-Fortune Toss- :QCF:+ :P:: Mallis tosses a silver, inanimate, Ms Fortune head. Arc and speed determined by button strength.
Lv 1: Normal sized head
Lv 2: 2x size head that does more damage
Lv 3: Same as level 2 but has a bounce for HP or roll for LP. MP is a bit of both.
-Junk Barrage- :QCF::QCF:+:PP:(Level 1): Mallis tosses an assortment of random silver colored daggers, pipes, and Ms. Fortune heads. 10 objects are tossed total, each one being completely random and with each object having a different property(time between thrown objects is about 8 frames:

Dagger: Flies straight for 3/4 screen length then arcs downward and stops when it hits the ground. (Least damage)
Pipe: Goes in a upward arc for 1/3 screen length then bounces for 1/4 more when it hits the ground. (Most damage)
Fortune Head: Goes in a downward arc for 1/4 screen then rolls until it either connects or goes off screen.

-Leave Me Alone!-:HCF:+ :PP:(Level 2, Air OK): A counter super that can also break out of grabs. Knocks the opponent away in a way similar to bursts. Can't be combed after. Has 3 active frames and a 15 frame animation.

If you're wondering about the lvs by the specials, well, Mallis can build a separate meter by getting hits and not getting hit. She loses meter by getting hit(blocking hits don't take away meter but rather stops the auto gain part). There's 4 segments, 3 for the specials and 1 as overfill(the overfill one is 1/2 the size of the others)

Just note that there's still more to be done, but I'll add it in later.

EDIT: The info was kind of scattered across a couple pages anyways so....

I know it sounds weird, but I nearly tempted to write a story script for my characters. You know, show how I'd like it to go down. Bet yet at the same time, I'm afraid I would completely blow all images of the official characters who had speaking roles ('cause you know that those have to be included, otherwise it isn't much of a story), so that kind of frightens me out of doing it... I don't know. What do you, random person viewing this comment, think? XD

I actually at one time was writing one for Mallis. Needs a slight rewrite though.

I might try it. If I hate it, or get some negative backlash, I'll stop and scrap it.

Just a few things about your character.

Those clothes are WAY to good to be on a vagrant orphan scrounging about for the barest of essentials to survive.

She looks a decent amount older than eleven. Mainly because of the bust. She looks like she'd be somewhere around sixteen, give or take a year, when compared to the physical appearance of the rest of the cast. Unless Ferals age differently, which I do not remember if such is the case or not.

The double-punch and double-kick inputs, especially while dashing, are not really viable options for Skullgirls. The moves could easily be given normal inputs though, with no real harm done to the effect.

She is too adorable. None of the decent characters would be able to attack her, resulting in her being over-powered.

Let me go into more detail then:

Those clothes are WAY to good to be on a vagrant orphan scrounging about for the barest of essentials to survive.
The clothes you see are her normal wear but she has a couple others she keeps around when either the main outfit is being cleaned or feels that where she'll go they'll get damaged. Also, she actually isn't orphaned THAT long, like maybe 1-2 months in game terms?

She looks a decent amount older than eleven. Mainly because of the bust. She looks like she'd be somewhere around sixteen, give or take a year, when compared to the physical appearance of the rest of the cast. Unless Ferals age differently, which I do not remember if such is the case or not.
I chose the pic because I felt it represented her the best. She wouldn't have the bust in-game.

The double-punch and double-kick inputs, especially while dashing, are not really viable options for Skullgirls. The moves could easily be given normal inputs though, with no real harm done to the effect.
Derp, I forgot about the 2 button dash, oops.

She is too adorable. None of the decent characters would be able to attack her, resulting in her being over-powered.
Not sure how to reply to this.

Well, I think I've done all I want to do with Lamont for now. Completely rewrote his bio and included story and stage, so I believe I'm satisfied with the state he's currently in. I'm shifting focus to finishing Twyla, so I guess I'll be working on that for a while.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT FINAL!

character-biography.png

Since He was 6, Wesson was an Orphan. The only thing he had to remember his parents by was his fathers Blue Scarf that was given to him from his mother. Living on the streets, He fought with street thugs in order to become stronger, to live longer. Even though he constantly fought, he found it very fun. Upon finding the thug that killed his parent, Wesson took the thugs gun and shot him. Holding the gun, he was filled with excitement more than ever. He then told the thug "Thank you for this life" and killed him. Wesson left New Meridian in hopes that everyone forgets about him. A few years later he returns and joins The Black Egrets using the fake name Chey. Believing the Egrets wasn't enough "excitement" for him, he secretly left stealing many Weapons and Fire Arms. In hope for excitement and a good thrill he became a Mercenary and a Wanted man. Because of his experience, many Gangs call him to take out High Priority Targets. No matter who the target is, he accepts as long as he gets a good pay and a good thrill. His Computer AI named Samantha handles all data he receives. Chey discovered "Sam" While infiltrating a "LAB" for the assassination of a Scientist. The same Gangs that hire him also hunts him down so nobody else can hire him. Knowing this may happen, constantly changes his apartment, Appearance and never shows his face on the job. He seems like a friendly guy with a sense of humor at first, but when he gets a contract and is in a fight, he becomes a bloodthirsty psychopath.

While Fighting Chey (Wesson) uses fast paced jabs and chops to vital areas. With his moving fist, he also uses a medium sized blade, constantly switching from Jabs, chops, and slices.

Chey carries Sam around on a chip that's built within his gloves. Sam takes Holographic form when talking to Chey but doesn't during battle. Sam somehow has information on all citizens of Canopy Kingdom, Including the royal family. Sam's purpose is unknown.

@CHAOS_FANTAZY Ring-a-ling!
But seriously, if it isn't too much trouble, I would like a little feed back on the final* version of Lamont. I completely overhauled his background, personality, etc. into something I liked more, and since you were the one who pointed out the first, I'd like to hear what you think about the changes.

*"Final" meaning probably the sixth of nine-thousand and one rewrites I do before I'm completely satisfied.

Is that the stick thingy from a violin!?

Like the chick from Portal?

Huh. That's neat. Maybe leaning a bit on Taliesin, though, or is that my misinterpretation of him? I dunno...if I were going to weaponize a violin bow, I probably would have turned the cloth bit into a razor-sharp edge. But I'm weird.
Also, you're a fantastic artist, etc etc.

And...oh, shoot, someone rang the bell and I forgot all about it. Sorry about that, @MrExtravagant.
And I guess I owe you double apologies, because I'm running low on constructive criticism. I rather like Lamont the way he is now. Neither too simple, nor too complicated of a backstory, and it passes in just about every category: explains his abilities and how he got them, clearly defines his motives, is sufficiently creative and interesting while not straying from what's unlikely for the Skullgirls-verse.
All I've really got left are minor nitpicks, the first of which is that it seems redundant to say he dislikes "injustice" when "justice" is already listed under his likes. I know it can be hard to come up with things to put on that list, but there's no need to repeat what's implied. It's like they always say: there are two kinds of people in this world, those that can extrapolate from incomplete sets of data...
The second is that his special moves sure could throw a person off. I'd rewrite the input commands so that each Passive move has an Aggressive move with the same input command (Or at least change Bloody Slash to Up My Sleeve's command, or Cerebella's Headgear). It could just be the opinion of a lowly scrub who's terrible at fighting games, but it seems to me like it would give the player less to think about when they're going in to use a move.

Alright, that's it, that's all I got. If you want more guidance, you'll need a second opinion. But really, I wasn't talking directly to you when I said that. It's like when a teacher is looking out at the whole classroom and one student thinks they're staring directly at them. I know it happens, because I've been that student before.

Like the chick from Portal?

So, overall a well received character?
