What actually got changed? I assumed PG13 meant language/tobacco stuff.

was what I was referring to. The first time you said it you clarified you were tired and the post annoyed you so you were going to bed, it being 5 in the morning and you didn't feel like bothering to put up the build made sense, the second time when you came back to the thread seemed more like you were saying you weren't uploading the build because you were upset with the community for the conversation and decided not to upload the build because of this. I'm not trying to argue with you, I understand why you were frustrated, but saying "now no one gets the build because of this" feels like a punishment to the community as a whole because someone refused to listen to you and posted nonsense after you'd already explained why he was wrong.

Oh, that makes sense. I more meant, I had a finite amount of time then and I spent it replying to some unnecessary junk rather than putting up the build, but I can see how that would come across the other way. Sorry.

I'm sorry that I interpreted it the wrong way then. It did seem like an odd thing to do.
 
I really like those new sounds effect for all the different beams of Robo Fortune, they sounds really retro(almost straight out of an arcade shmup) and it really makes me wants to use them more! For a character i thought would be a joke character on the side at first, she really came out impressive and much deadlier than expected! It will takes alot to make me dislike her now!
 
Fuck the esrb man i love the fanservice snot fair. What happened to bring around the change? Do we have to worry about filias thighs getting nerfed too? Is there worry about a M rating? otherwise, stupid decision. People that say they don't play cause of the art won't switch over because you remove a few panty shots, they're the kind of people that will make any excuse they can not to play a game.

Well i think here it's more about getting the PG-13 mark and not a problem that people has with the fanservice themselves, and the change so far is frankly minimal anyway.

Reserve your fear for the day when all character will need to be flat-chested in order to be PG-13, THEN we'll be in real trouble!

I'm never optimistic when developers self sensor. Better cover up vals cleavage too wouldn't want to make anyone have dirty thoughts.

Okay, let's get this over with before you guys start to freak out as though something much more significant is going on here.

The edits, made exclusively to Filia/Fukua and Cerebella, were not made to appeal to a ratings board or anything like that. The desire to make the changes was internal, and it was cleared with the artists and everyone on the team is cool with them.

Our public stance with regard to panty shots and the like within the game has always been something along the lines of "well, they're sexy girls, and they're fighting. If one of them is wearing a skirt, you're bound to see some panty. We're not trying to hide it, but we're also not going out of our way to show it either."

There were a handful of animations - which I will not spend time enumerating just to sate your curiosity - that we felt went against that, because they seemed like they did go out of their way to flash some panty, and we wanted to fix them. These animations were made waaaay in the beginning of development (Filia was the first character ever made for Skullgirls, remember!) and these animations wouldn't have been made the same way if they'd been animated today because our standards have evolved.

This is not up for debate. The changes are staying and there aren't any more coming. We're not trying to significantly alter the game, because as some have already pointed out, there's plenty of other stuff in the game that's more racey than what was edited.

With the exception of very obvious bouncing cleavage, this is how I've always viewed it as well. I've seen irl girl fights where the girls were in skirts...if it gets taken to the ground there will be visible panties. I've seen chicks rip shirts and bras off each other... Shit happens in chick fights.

But I've always found it weird this fascination that some people have with visible animated panties in action shots that last a few frames at most. I seriously never notice them outside still shots that are seeking to show them off. Ive always felt like, if you aren't looking for them, you ain't going to see them unless you happen to pause at the perfect time on accident.

Anyways, I'm not mad at the changes but I'm very glad it isn't as some form of external censorship. If labzero wants to have panties in the game then I want to have panties in the game, and if labzero doesn't want t have panties in the game then I don't want panties in the game.

Artistic integrity is what I value in this isolated case.
 
Alright I guess I can live with that, and I really agree with your fan-service philosophy.. There's just been a lot of prudishness in gaming lately, so it scares me to see developers try to be PC. I don't really notice the detailed fan service in game but it's the principle that matters to me, for instance would you design valentine with a revealing outfit now or has that evolved too? Cause, I like that stuff, and I think it looks cool, the sexiness is part of why the art style is so appealing.

This is getting kind of abstract and big picture, but I would rather not see future projects get dumbed down because you guys have changed your mind on girls showing a little skin.

apologize that this isn't gameplay, but it is a beta change so I hope this is the right place to talk about this, I don't mean to derail the thread.

Don't worry, there hasn't been any sort of monumental shift. I already said that there's plenty of racier stuff in the game that we're not - and never considered - changing, so I hope that's proof that you have nothing to worry about.

Removing a pantyshot that by Lab Zero's own admission was put in to show skin rather than by any necessity = dumbing down? What the fuck, man. You're acting like some critical plot point just got 4kids'd into oblivion.

This isn't about Lab Zero being "politically correct", this is about them making the game they want to make. Are they not allowed to reconsider their standards? No one has bowed to pressure, no one is being strong-armed; this is the group of people that has worked on the game since 2009 coming together and agreeing that some of the stuff they've done might be a little excessive.

If you still really want to freak out and turn this into a slippery slope, Render pretty much said that nothing else will be touched. Go play Skullgirls and take a count at how many pantyshots are still in the game. Fact: Plenty more than just about any other fighter!!

Just to say it again - the corrections made have been on the list of things to do for YEARS. Don't be jumping to conclusions just because they're finally getting done.

Anyone else think that Robo's dash sfx are a little quiet?
 
They seem fine to me, but I play with headphones. Are these the final sound effects? I doubt it, but I think it's kind of cool how it reminds me of Sonic and other 16 bit sci fi games.



P.S. Shout outs to gratuitous panty shots becoming incidental panty shots. I've always had the same view on girls in skirts fighting. So I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Would it be possible for the Robo player to pick which version of Headrone Salvo s/he wants to use? Like if the c.hk assist needs to come once, twice or thrice before the attack.

There should still be enough to attract them! And frankly, i have a hard time imagining someone saying 'half the panty shot gone? count me out!'

And anyway for the nostalgic, i guess that in many years someone will painstalkingly recreate the 'pantifull' version of the characters in mugen...

Holy shit, dude. It's like ~20 individual frames in a game with over 15,000. Did you read anything I wrote? There's still plenty of stuff in game that is as or more racey as what we edited. You seem to think there's been widespread and rampant edits in the name of censorship, wherein we removed every single panty shot in the game. That is most certainly not the case.

Also, setting aside the assertion that the game would sell significantly better in Japan over a handful of gratuitous panty shots (and it wouldn't), we're not maintaining separate versions of the game for different regions.

This is the last time I'm going to bother responding to anyone on this subject. =/
 
I bet no one would even notice these panty frame changes if they weren't explicitly mentioned in the changelog.

That's not to say they are not appreciated. Rather, that anyone who is upset about them is blowing the issue out of proportion.

How well is UNIEL doing over in Japan? Because I recall French Bread's policy with that game being "No panty shots. Period." Which, considering Nanase, is kind of a feat.

Anyways, loving Robo's sound effects. I hope they stay 8-bit-like.

i'm betting that the 8-bit sounds are not going to stick. I personally love em but, eh... maybe a mix between real sounds with the 8-bit? for the best of both worlds? *shrugs*
 
Onward going from everyone getting their knickers in a twist, I have a thought.

Can we actually increase the hitstun on the notes played by s.mp trumpet so that it might actually be usable in a combo and link into s.hk properly? Why you might ask? Funsies, style, and irritating the opponent. C'mooon. :^) It's practically useless otherwise except for style, but everyone just cancels M/H Train into Satchmo anyways, when they have the chance.

Also, Miiiiiike, how would you feel if I asked "could we buff A Train L?", like, give it full throw invuln startup (or full invuln) and maybe a few extra active frames or less startup frames or something? The idea I've been thinking of is, what if A Train L was actually good for things besides unsafe resets causing slide and making nuetral more even (which you can do already in a otgless combo with M/h train and not risk getting CH). Maybe even make it as a option to stuff bad/obvious throw resets, like MGR things or Fukua's cmd grabs. Really, L Train is probs the worst cmd grab in the game. d: Not to say it isn't useful, but, it could stand to be a bit better.

Please this, maybe also not have sMP notes combo linked to meter (which I guess is supposed to be tied to comboing into level 5, but as said above no one even does that), or change how the undizzy works with it so that it's easier (I know that there were fears about sMP burst baits before, but maybe there can be some other solution?). It'd be so much more fun if it was easier to actually use sMP notes in a combo.

Considering the uses L A train has for blockstrings, I think it's perfectly fine as is and that BB doesn't really need for it to be buffed for all the other tools he has. For the "worst comand grab" bit, well, someone has to have the worst command grab, and considering BB already has a bunch of great tools to serve whatever purpose, I don't think there's anything wrong with L A train just being a weaker move than the others.
 
I say Squigly has the worst command grab in the game, but that's because newbies think it's a good reversal
