USA [May 27-29] Combo Breaker 2016 (Chicago, IL)

Since I have plenty of time still left on this bus ride back, lets shout some people out
@dekillsage I am really grateful for those pointers you gave me a month ago, I hope to play you more in the future and that I continue to grow from here on out

@mcpeanuts see me in Wordament you ducker

@keninblack As always, it was an adventure hanging out with you again and hopefully we keep meeting up at tourneys and locals. Glad you were hydrated too. Also, thank you for bringing back the sleeping bag, it completely slipped my mind, I hope it served you well

@Saske We didn't get to play casuals like we wanted to, but hanging out with you was great (also, thank you for explaining the whole controller thing from NEC)

@CaioLugon Thank you for the set! I will definitely lab your HCH combo and see on how to improve it, if possible. (Also, your mustache was very mesmerizing and I feel guilty if you caught me staring)

@zeknife great set! I'm glad the first time we got to play was in an offline setting. Also, just because I have a lot of experience versus a set of assists, doesn't mean that it isn't effective against me

@aphrodynamek Really glad you were able to make it after all. I hope you had a lot of fun with the community and that it won't be the last time you come around.

@dapurplesharpie My coaching will always be one-sided fam. Seriously though, congrats on winning that ft5

@WingZero Good games! I also enjoyed playing you in casuals, watching Adeveis just jump on you was a sight to see too (and yeah, we have your sweater)

@Mike_Z No I wasn't. I understand you had to leave asap, so hopefully I get to play you online. You better hope to reset me correctly. (Also, mold me into the perfect commentator you wish to hear)

@LazyBakemono I'm sorry we didn't do the thing at round start

@Elda Taluda You were truly scaring me when you kept supering on wakeup. Hope I get to play you more in the future at other tourneys!

@Fizzxwizz Dude! I need to show you some headless stuff that I forgot to show you! Next time though

@zarkingphoton amazing Titbox my dude

@Clawsome Bombs Cannot believe you're challenging me to a ft10 solo Robo set after losing 3 ft10 solo Fortune ones. I'll be sure to stream your defeat

@Dolfinh I hope you had fun and are feeling better. Also, you left some green tea behind, hopefully you weren't planning on drinking it on the way back. I should really be posting in the Fortune thread like you suggested, huh?

Drunk @Datagram was an experience to behold and I wish I recorded it

@Skarmand You pet really nice, please don't let that be the last time you do it

@Mr Peck Thank you for unloading that UK knowledge on Wednesday, it was a good talk. Also, I wished I played you and @Grodie in a set before we all left

@Kai You are truly tall in person, and I love it. I don't know how you manage all of that hype within one body without exploading. That was a fun set we had and I hope we get to meet at more events!

@joshb911 I told you to start getting used to ps4 as soon as you got there

@KhaosMuffins Thank you for that ft10 set. I really needed to learn some things in that match before cb and I did, it helped in that set versus Lazy too. Really sad you couldn't make it though

@Some Person You won't see us in MP4 though

@Dhoppler is was great seeing you again! (Should I mail you the juice instead?)

@ninja-nutria You were indeed very shy, but it was great to finally meet you

@fenster It was really cool hanging out with you again! And thank you for showing us the wonder that is Culvers, never knew it existed. I might not have been saying much during those talks, but I was listening intently, I just wasn't sure on when to chime in

@ShakyFingers You did amazing, and don't let this be the last time we see you at a tourney

@drewski It really is down to whoever gets touched first, huh? Intense games!

@worldjem I wish we could have played sets before it was too late, oh well, next time for sure!

@EFHRK maaaaaaan you weren't even drunk

@thehadou Thank you so much for all the hard work you, and the entire Combo Breaker staff, put into this event. We REALLY appreciate it, thank you
I hope I'm not forgetting anyone, if I did, I'll just edit later.

And to everyone, I love this community, and how welcoming it is. The way that other players helped me grow, I also want to help others grow so we can all become better players as a whole

Put me in Team No Pineapple, yeah

Hello peeps.

Got home and fell asleep and slept way longer than I wanted to. Through my alarm even. I'm actually really pissed off about that. More so than I should be.

Was a fun trip. Enjoyed seeing everyone. I was never good at making these shout out posts.

To the peeps that played casuals with me, thanks for playing casuals with me.

@Broseidon Rex, sorry I just up and bailed on Loonacy after that second game, but I really wanted to check out Mario Party. Felt guilty about that. Thanks for telling me about the guy who lived in a blue world.

@render, it was really nice seeing you again, even though we both live in SoCal. Here's to hoping we get our locals back soon.

A friend of mine went to ComboBreaker; you're his hero:

He never got around to taking a picture of it despite saying you'd want to see the controller I let him use for casuals and pool play. Kai managed to capture video of me playing if you want to see for yourself, though.

Big shoutout to @dapurplesharpie, Kai's wife and son, and @carbonbae for their stellar costumes. I've fallen out of having doing it myself but I feel motivated to make one for next year.

Is there going to be a skullheart mainpage news update at any point in time? Like for a new person checkin the page it seems like time has frozen still.... nothing has been added in a loooooooooong while.

@Mike_Z wahhhh thank you! Sharing a room with you and @Skarmand was I N C R E D I B L E this weekend! thank you so much for making me feel so welcome c: you might think i'm cool but i can guarantee i think you guys are cooler!

Sorry to everybody i didn't play all that much, i was suuuuuper nervous and awful at adapting to the new sleep schedule ;__;

Guys! Combo Breaker was INCREDIBLE! I had tons of fun stream monstering you guys! It brought so many good memories, I felt even healed a bit! Shoutouts to Lethalmind taking a piece of me to the tournament, lol! As always this community is pure love and filled with the kindest people I've ever met. Unfortunately I couldn't go this year, I had a troublesome year after returning from CB2015 plus some depression stuff I rather not talk about, but I'm already starting to work on my CB2017 plans. I've been away from playing FGs for the past year, but watching how much you guys have evolved, how many new players are there, and how much hype every match was it made me super proud to be a small part of this community! o/ SGC FOR LYFE!!!

Incredible weekend, thank you everyone who put this event together and thanks to everyone who showed up, I love you all

I'm also gonna start bringing Flash Duel to more majors cause people seemed to enjoy it

@Dolfinh Did your hand end up feeling okay the rest of the weekend?
I was okay by the end of the weekend (both physically and mentally). You can thank @Mike_Z @Skarmand @Saske @ShadeMoneh + Rishmael, Scott Whale, and friends for making me feel loved.

EDIT: AND PEANUTS

Seems like a lot of people were shy and nervous.

literally everyone is their first tournament, i even kind of knew people from streams/online tournaments/etc at last year's CB (my first tournament) and i barely talked to anyone the whole time

Also thank you @Mr Peck for the tips, and everyone i played matches with, @Psychopath we played mirror match peacock and he won 10-9 i will get you next time

Id like to give a shoutout to @keninblack for leaving his swim shorts in the bathroom of our hotel room

Fuck I knew I forgot something, you guys can just toss them.

==========

Anyway, I don't really feel like doing shout outs so I'm just going to talk for a bit. This might be a wall of text and I apologize in advance.

Thank you guys so much.

I can't believe the game has grown the way it has, it used to be such a struggle for me, Winnie, and Peanuts to find people to play against. Now, here we are with a dedicated community that just wants to play. We were easily the biggest community there at the later hours of the night, really abusing the 24/7 venue. I just can't get over how while other games begin, thrive, and slowly but surely die off. We began, thrived, struggled, and thrived again. Other than Melee I can't think of another game that is doing this. I can't be more proud of every single one of you. I always thinking of this as my "last" tournament to enter and really care about, but I left this tournament hungry to play again, I want to be back to my former results and I want to play more than ever. I can't thank you all enough for that, it really means the world to me. I just love this community, it warms my heart to see how welcoming and nice we are to new players who are interested in the game just like we are. You don't have to "go through the ranks" or "know somebody" to be "in" you can just love the game and thats good enough for us. I was in a bad place a few months ago and going to this is exactly what I needed, you guys help me more then you could ever imagine. I appreciate every single one of you, but lets not stop! Lets keep it going, CEOtaku, Guts, Defend the North, lets keep this going. Show up to whatever you can, and never forget to show up to Combo Breaker.

@thehadou I said it to you in person thankfully but from the bottom of my heart you have no idea how much it means to me that you gave us this chance, the years of being EVO's side project were good yet not exactly what we as a scene was looking for. You gave us main stage, you gave us exposure, you gave us respect, and you have my complete gratitude for that. Thank you so much for giving us what we needed for so long.

You had a solid Valentine!! :) Was fun meeting and playing you in pools. Will do shoutout post later.

I just want to say that this is the MOST IMPORTANT thing to keep in mind as Skullgirls grows even bigger. There's nothing off putting as a new player than feeling like half of the community is inaccessible (socially, not just in terms of gameplay)- this was my biggest pain with NorCal SSBM as it grew bigger in my region. It's hard to be accommodating- but the SGC does this so wel, let's make sure it doesn't get lost.

Seeing new players and first time event attendees joining with our longtime squads for food runs, pool hangouts, and casual sessions really warmed my heart.

I will say that it was very weird seeing everyone in person. I've been posting in message boards for years and actually seeing the people behind the text in person was surreal. I'm still kind of bummed that I didn't get to meet everybody. I saw a lot of faces but didn't put names on them. For example I don't know exactly who Sunset Radiance, Dolfinh, or Grodie were despite being that I had to see them playing. The Skullgirls tables were always packed so it was hard for me to get a game. To be fair though, I'm sure I'm not helping either being that my username for this site is different from my tag name.

This also may seem rude to say, but I was surprised by how young everyone looked, assuming that their ages on their pop-up profiles are accurate. McPeanuts for example always gets made fun of for being "old", but he looks younger than I am.

I've always been a stream monster and lurking on the forums but never really posted much but I'm so happy that combo breaker once again was a huge success for this community and we can only go up from here. I'm very proud of everyone and love this community greatly even though I've mostly been on the sidelines. Definitely will be saving money so I can make it out to one of these events!

Once you get old enough your looks wrap back around to looking young, it's like integer overflow

I'll just go on record that only Kai somewhat looked his age. Everyone 25 and older could pass as a high school student. I imagined that this was some of your guys day job.

DAaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAaaaaamn.
Kai, I can tell you my secret regimen if you want, it's really only one thing. :^P

I want to be back to my former results
Two-and-out ain't that hard, yo. :^)
But yeah, you placed behind me, you gotta step it up! <3

It was wild to watch you go full power, I actually want to see if some of those conversions work with Zid's assist, like Kanchou > c.HK xx Battle Butt + assist. That adds so much damage to the start of the combo!

I refuse to believe that you are 25.
o///w///o

Its cool cause I feel 39 with all these projects I'm working on. lol
(but srsly thank you omggg)

And here I am worried that you would be offended about me commenting on your age. lol

You seemed cool, so it was unfortunate that I wasn't able to talk to you because you seemed sort of infamous throughout the SGC.

I did see your awesome comeback victory against Broken Loose though while I was watching the Killer Instinct finals. Great job.

I never even got to play you, did I...?
Nope. There's a ton of people I didn't get to play, which is nuts cause I'm pretty sure I played more casuals at this tournament than I have in years.

I'd assume it's the ridiculous amount of alcohol that makes you feel 39. Either that or the shame of putting money on Adeveis' Yoshi.

Adevis won me $10. I'm not even mad.

how did his Yoshi win money? My Peach was fuckin' adequate

Oh, Mega Mix you were there? Ah, I didn't get to meet you. It would have been cool, since I remember fighting you a couple times. I was wearing a red and black flannel shirt with a matching hair bow on Friday, if that helps with the after-the-fact identification process. XD

I'm sorry but I can't remember. The only girls I remember was a black girl (dapurplesharpie), the Valentine cosplayer, a girl with blue hair, and a girl with black (brown?) hair and eye shadow.

Yeah I'm bummed that I didn't get to meet you as we have played one another a lot online.

And you always win.
